Hello everyone,

I am confused after reading so many different views and statements regarding notifications. How will I receive an NOA? Do I need to go to the USCIS website and find out that way? I don't have any numbers to go by because I filed for the K1 exactly a week ago today and haven't heard a thing. People have stated that you can view your check that they cash online, but I have no idea how that works. Any guidance will be appreciated!

Also, as far as timelines go, am I understanding this correctly in that all K1s that are filed in Texas are still sent to the California center? Does that mean that I should be estimating the time by the CA processing times or the TX processing times?

I know I read that someone said that the times are just estimates and usually assume that there will be issues in the midst of the process. If there aren't any issues, is 3 months the right estimate to go by?

Thank you!

Hello everyone,

I am confused after reading so many different views and statements regarding notifications. How will I receive an NOA? Do I need to go to the USCIS website and find out that way? The NOA1 and NOA2 come from USCIS. Basically NOA1: it is telling you that they got your petition and it gives you the receipt date and this is mailed to you via USPS. NOA2: this is the notice of apporval of your petition. If you sign up for e-mail notifications you will get an e-mail and then a hard copy in the mail (needed for AOS).

If your check has been cashed then you can get the case number off the back and sign up for updates at the USCIS website. Some banks make the image of the check available online and that is how some get their case number. I called my bank's customer service and they read my case number off the back for me (I couldn't read it online).

Also, as far as timelines go, am I understanding this correctly in that all K1s that are filed in Texas are still sent to the California center? Does that mean that I should be estimating the time by the CA processing times or the TX processing times?

All petitions malied to TSC are forwarded to CSC. As for time estimations I am not sure. Some say that 3 months is a good estimate to go by (provided there are no hiccups).

I highly recomend you read Captain Ewok's pinned post at the top of the K-1 forum, it explains all about email notifications, and USCIS website status updates, and the mysterious "touches" everyone talks about.
