Hi Guys, so I’ve been reviewing interview questions. There’s one that has me stumped.

Why are you getting married in the US?” OR “Why don’t you get married in Nigeria?

Please what’s the best way to answer this question? seems like a tricky question without a right answer. Would appreciate people who have been asked during their interviews to help out or anyone who has a helpful answer.

By the way, my response would have been: Because she has her whole family and job there and I do not intend to disrupt that.

Seems like an inadequate response to me though because I also have that here in Nigeria.

Looking forward to helpful contributions

just as others have said, just answer it in the most honest way you can.

Why are you getting married in the USA?     That is an easy answer -  Because the K-1 visa requires that we get married in the USA.

Concurring with Hank.

Who May File Form I-129F?

You may file this petition if you are a U.S. citizen and:

  1. You and your fiancé(e):

    1. Are legally free to marry and intend to marry within 90 days of your fiancé(e)’s admission to the United States; and

REF: https://www.uscis.gov/i-129f , Instructions, page 1

Another possible response: We love one another, we want to be together, we are employing the K1 visa procedure to be together.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Don’t overthink it. It’s not a Harvard entrance exam. Answer truthfully. That’s the only way to answer any question you are asked in this process.

As other have said, the K-1 visa only allows for marriage in the US. It's a requirement to get married in the US, so it's not like you have a choice.

Just an FYI.  "So I can get a green card" may not be the best answer.

Nor is so I can meet her family first. That can get you denied and I know some who said that. "Wanted to meet her family first. Wanted the kids to know me first. The CO asked back "what of they don't like you then".

Stick to why you wanted to get married n US. Period don't over think it.
