He thinks you’re stupid for being pragmatic and is for some reason prioritizing his making it back for his sisters wedding over your own?

It took 7 months for me to receive AP. At the time of applying, it was estimated to take 3 months, so we stupidly arranged a big 'wedding' celebration back in the UK the following summer after I arrived. The wedding was at the end of June, and I received AP just 3 weeks before we were due to fly.

I cannot even begin to explain to you just how stressful that whole situation was! Waiting and not knowing if I would receive AP in time, whilst the whole time the clock was ticking down. We got to the point where we were about to cancel the whole thing, and had a very emotional chat late one night where we decided if it hadn't come by the end of the week we would let all our friends and family know that it wasn't going to happen. Luckily, I awoke that next morning to an alert that it had been approved.

Like others have said, if his sister's wedding is so important to him, he should delay his entry to the US on the K1 visa until after her wedding. The 4 months between applying for AP and receiving it seems optimistic at best, and in reality unrealistic. He doesn't want to have that constant sick feeling I had for months when you're not sure if it will arrive in time or not. Mine luckily ended in a happy ending, but his may not, and what happens if it doesn't arrive in time? Is he prepared to make the decision between missing his sister's wedding, or going anyway and effectively ending his AOS application? A wedding is not considered reason to expedite AP.

:wow:After reading at these forums about all of the "train wrecks" associated with trying to plan wedding ceremonies predicated on the dream that the "good USCIS-fairy" will grant your timeline wishes... to be frank about the scheme....'taint likely to happen the way you hope! B-)You should seriously consider making making your ALL of your plans, not set in stone, but rather in quicksand...with refundable/changeable contingencies built in and enjoy some more pixie dust...while you are waiting...  According to today's VJ stats, USCIS is currently processing mid-July 2019 EAD/AP applications, that is ~ 5.5 months, and the holidays will be here shortly. It is extremely likely that application processing will slow down even more, due to USCIS workers taking holiday time off. The  notion of trying to use emergency AP as a way to "get me to the church on time," won't fly either, take a look at the USCIS expedite criteria....

Good luck on your immigration journey.

I know going to his sisters wedding is going to be important to him but I think he needs to understand that it might not happen.

I applied for my advance parole at the end of July and I’ve only just received mine today, the wait time has been increasing recently. That’s not to say it won’t change when you guys come to apply (I doubt that would be the case) but he should know it’s not a guarantee.

Hello Visa Journey,

PROBLEM: Its VALENTINES Day (everywhere is probably booked) and its five days before my birthday (Feb19). Not to sound spoiled but I really prefer not to have valentines day an anniversary, and my birthday all in the same week for the rest of our married lives.

If anyone else has advice, please share down below.

Thank you

Funny on the time frame. Wife and I were married on the 13th, Valentine on the 14th, her birthday on the 15th.  3 gifts to buy for a 3 day celebration!  It's nice actually, as we use this nearly 1/2 a week for ourselves to have fun and enjoy life!!!

Hello Visa Journey,

My fiance and I applied for  K1 visa and are coming to a close with an interview at Sydney on Feb 5th. All this should be exciting but I am no where near excited because of all this wedding planning stress along with the Advance Parole.

My fiance feels so confident that he will be in the states by Valentines Day and wants to get married on that exact day in the form of a small elopement ceremony and dinner afterwards. He wants to get married the moment he comes off the plane so we can apply for Adjustment of Status and Advanced Parole in order to make it to his sisters wedding in Australia by the end of June.

Based on other timelines it doesnt look like Advance Parole isnt issued as fast as 2-3 months anymore, more like 5-6 months realistically. SO I suggested we get married on March 1st because I really dont think 2 weeks will make a difference on getting this AP approved. My fiance thought this idea absolutely stupid but I dont want to make all these plans and hes not here by Feb 14th. It is a gamble and I am not willing to plan a wedding on one of the most busiest days of the year for him not to be here by chance. Until he has a visa in his hands I dont want to make risky plans and claim a wedding date. March 1st seems more realistic but he thinks its insane because he believes those two weeks will make all the difference in getting his AP in time.

If anyone else has advice, please share down below.

Wow. He sounds really childish! I'm sorry.

He is the person who is paying for everything?

Find the most expensive place in your town and send him the bill hahaha

I don't know all your storie but is good take time during the 90 days to be sure if you really want to marry someone. IJS. hhaha

Good luck

And I highly doubt USCIS will grant us an emergency AP for a wedding

Yeah, nah.

He is maybe a bit naive.  If he insists on booking tickets, make sure you buy ones that allow for travel date changes, unless you are prepared to lose that money.

Uh, no.  As you attest to your plan to marry each other in the petition, the K-1 90 days is in fact not a "let's see if we want to" deal.

She can do whatever she wants! She is not obligated to marry! She can decided not do it and done.

K1 really did not seem the way to go, nobody can say for certain but AP in 4 months and booking last minute the flight cost?

Amazing how so many don't realize that the K-1 sort of precludes being able to plan a wedding.

Well, of course.  But the intention to marry is part of the K-1 deal.  Contrary to what you may have seen on television (90 Day Fiance), it is not a "trial run."  That is what visiting is for.
