Indeed. There's a reason I refer to them as leftists and not liberals. They've abandoned many liberal viewpoints in but a few short years. Melt away, snowflakes.

I am not sure if it came across to a US audience, her accent...

Thank you for posting this -- I'm glad to hear your wife is doing better. It sounds far, far worse than what I have -- I am lucky (if one can say anything about being a migraine sufferer is lucky) that they are infrequent, but they do tend to cluster. When I get one, I know a few more are going to follow, like echoes of an earthquake. The build up to one is infuriating, because I know it's going to happen, but I try to dismiss it as something else, like allergies causing my eyes to be cloudy. But the funky things -- like in your wife, the exaggerated sense of smell, or with me where I start "seeing" songs as colors (I did not know that "Eleanor Rigby" by the Beatles is mahogany brown, or that Lizzo's "Good As Hell" is magenta until THAT migraine) or hearing people say something innocuous but also hear at the same time superimposed a double entendre of those words (very hard to explain, but it was funny!) -- are almost scarier than the pain. The pain I can deal with because I know it will end. The weird stuff makes me wonder if I'm going crazy and I'll never go back to "normal."

I have looked into Botox for my migraines, but the doctor said that I don't get them frequently enough.  I get them once every three months or so, sometimes longer -- I haven't had one in six months, but now I've had two in the past 10 days. I'm under a lot of stress with the move at the moment, so I'm not totally surprised, and I've had some family drama recently because... holidays. I'm hoping that it's only two in this cluster. In the meantime, no booze and no caffeine until further notice, and I have delegated all cheese-eating to my fiance, which is sad because I bought half of an entire Stilton!

My friend Miranda who was drunk posting on FB after the election asking if I knew any American men looking for a bride because she wanted out of the UK. But now she's sober she says she isn't interested in moving to America after all and would prefer to use her Spanish passport (her mother is Spanish) and move to the south of France instead. The food is better there, she says, and she finds the climate agreeable.

I think she would score high on the hot/crazy matrix. There is a reason she is 34 and she has yet to have a relationship that lasted longer than six months. She looks like a bit like Taylor LaShae with a smaller chest (sorry), and is extremely bossy. She and Al went out for three years and he absolutely couldn't stand her at times, but kept going back for more partly because resistance was futile. (She is the ex he was hiding from behind the sofa when I met him -- I know I mentioned that before.) They argued ALL the time at very high volumes, and I couldn't ever figure out why he would go back for more when she was so infuriating to him. (I am older now, and understand a little more about how good sex can make you do extremely dumb things! ) But we're all friends now -- it was a long time ago.

Well time for the Million dollar question, will she be attending the Hen Night?

Of course! I was just at a "mini-hen" with her (not hers, the bride-to-be was our mutual friend's fiancee, now wife) in October and we talked about it. Not sure what we'll do, I still am thinking December of next year for the wedding, but moving has kind of ended the momentum I was starting to build towards wedding planning.

I didn't even know there was such a thing as a "mini-hen" before that visit. The real one took place a week before, and this was one that was kind of a courtesy for the female close friends of the groom-to-be who had come in for the wedding. All we did was go to a niceish gastropub and drink sauvignon blanc and gossip; I left early (jet lag) and the rest of them did some shots back at one of the Airbnbs, but that's it. Alex was at the real stag do which involved some terrible nightclub in Crawley and a stripper on the party bus with as he put it "dreadful fake baps."

I had a friend whose best man was female.  Before that sort of thing was fashionable.

I do not think I have seen mini hen called that but am familiar with the concept.

Now I did not think it was normal to invited grooms ex GF's to your Hen Knight but admittedly not may area and I may be out of date.

I have been to one where the bride and groom had a joint bachelor/bachelorette party and that was out here in California. It was at a bikini bar, because in Los Angeles (where it was held) you can't serve alcohol where dancers are fully nude. It was... interesting? It was also on a Saturday afternoon, which was odd, but it did mean we had the place to ourselves. It was meant to be ironic but it was kind of depressing until I was on my third or fourth PBR. I have subsequently found out that when Voldemort and I first split, he used to go there and get drunk and talk to the dancers because they were kind and he was lonely. I honestly don't know if that's pathetic and I should gloat about it, or pathetic and I should feel bad for him. I won't link to it because I think it's against TOS to do so, but it is kind of a famous place in Hollywood called Jumbo's Clown Room.

Also, Alex, um, got around a lot in his friend group. If ex-girlfriends and ex-wives were off limits as invitees, that would mean at least two of the people I want to be there would not be able to attend. (I am NOT inviting his other ex, who was at the other wedding and who is a surly, moody cow, so I do have some limits.) Also, I am generally a nice person (I am told) who isn't particularly jealous, and if we have all moved on and grown up, I don't see the problem. The women are perfectly capable of getting along -- it's the men that are not.

That video description is misleading. It wasn't just Antifa involved.

People are upset by the election results. Some are marching and shouting, some are at the pub or home grousing and drinking. I assume you never lived in the UK, but marching and shouting and drinking and grousing are kind of things that aren't completely out of the ordinary over there, especially in big cities.

Also, Andrew Doyle isn't terribly funny anymore.

I thought this was funny.

I see his problem is that he comes out with totally outrageous remarks, things you can not believe anybody would do, and then reality catches him up.

Did he not joke that  Meghan would bring her child up non Binary, and boom. Where do you go?

Did he? And is she? No matter what my Google feed on my phone thinks, I am not that interested in Meghan and Harry. Every time I open it, I get some other new story about them and I'm just not that interested.

I am not convinced that he has much say, she certainly did.

I did conduct a bit of a social experiment some time back, the Australian version of the Guardian is particularly woke and I was reading the comments on some article and they all seemed from the same mindset and total nonsense. I forget what it was about now, so left a comment that was so progressive I thought nobody could take it seriously. Anyway forgot all about it until much later when I found it and was somewhat surprised how well it had been received. I am at a loss as to what I would need to write before someone would call me out.

Okay, I just googled and Kensington Palace said that the whole "gender fluid" baby Archie thing was not real. Yeah, it's from The Sun but I could find other links but I'm also kind of lazy. https://www.thesun.co.uk/fabulous/8544919/palace-dismisses-reports-meghan-markle-prince-harry-baby-gender-fluid/

There is a difference between saying you are going to raise your child without gender stereotypes -- like if you have a girl, they can have all the pirate swords and toy trucks the child might want, or a boy could play with baby dolls if he wanted -- and to say you will raise your child without gender.

Quick look seems that it originated with Vanity Fair and unclear as to what was exactly meant and the full blown version was denied by the Palace.

So probably best to give it a pass, it does for in with Meghan but to use the Scottish term not proven.it seems.

I agree it's best to give it a pass. There's so much gossip about Meghan and Harry and who knows how much of it reflects reality. I guess in some small way I identify with her, since I also married into a dysfunctional English family where everyone seems to have an opinion on how I'm doing everything wrong.

I don't think about the royals as much as this conversation and my Google feed seem to think I do. I'm not a Republican (either here or there) but I do think there's too many of them getting too many handouts from the state, when there's so many more important  things to spend it on. Shrinking the list would be good for the country. If it were up to Al, he'd wheel out the guillotines but I'm not nearly as bloodlusty.

Well before you time in the UK there used to be a big push for a Presidential system, for some reason that died away.

It is a bit like the PR discussion that for some reason is seen as better system, but they all have their pluses and minuses, lets face it if there was something obviously wonderful then it would be very apparent. Always makes me laugh when I am told how wonderful the US system, now I take the view that it would be rude to make too much of a fuss, I was not born here, but can point out a few things from a long list if pushed.

Once every three months isn't bad. Multiple times a day is what I'm currently dealing with. The buildup is usually agitation, followed by anxiety, followed by a sense of confusion/fog and vertigo. In the old days smells would be a trigger as well as certain lighting. Some days it's just the headache, and other days it's complete blindness or wavy lines.

I would not attempt Botox unless last resort. There's plenty of drugs out there to stop a migraine before it starts, or at least make them last not so long. It might be worth having your vitamin and TSH/T4/T3 levels checked. I started a variety of treatments last week and it has made a difference. I get the auras but it doesn't lead to a migraine. When I get one it's cut the time of the visual and auditory disturbances in half.

Sorry to hear you suffer too, but glad you are getting some relief. My trigger is almost always stress. I've had a couple of "almosts" in the past six months but I am good about taking my Topomax before it blooms into a migraine. If I get one in me in time, I am spared. This time, I didn't have my Topomax with me when I started to feel it coming on and wham, I got one. It's almost always in my handbag, but I just got a new bag and forgot to put a couple of tabs in there. By the time I could get to the bottle, I was in full blown migraine territory and it was useless.

I just had my bloodwork done this summer and at my mom's suggestion asked to have my TSH/T3/T4 checked. Normal. I didn't have vitamin levels checked except for iron, and I am slightly anemic. I take supplements now for that and have upped my leafy greens/cruciferous veggie intake. We have a history of migraines in the family, and if I'm like my mom and her siblings, I will hopefully grow out of them in my mid 40s.

Topomax has some pretty crazy side effects. Nearly made someone I know off themselves in a fit of hallucinating mania. Have you had the anemia rechecked since upping your intake? Extra iron has had no effect for me since the anemia is being caused by something else. Serum B12 and Vit D levels opened up the pandora's box for me but it's provided relief. Every woman in my family has the migraines, now I'm encouraging everyone to get checked, might be genetic.
