Well, as far as I know, his isn't! (I take him at his word that there is only me.)

Being short on cash probably helps.

Question for the men -- if there is something that I know Alex wants, and he has told me not to get it for him because he doesn't want me spending my "blood money" (his term for my support payments) on him, should I go ahead and get it for him anyway under the fiction that it's actually my wages paying for the thing? I mean, when I get the support payments, half is wired into my checking account and the rest into another account I use to fund investments. My wages go into the checking account too, so the money is mingled. Is it stretching it too much to say, okay, $XXXXXX I spent on this present was all from my wages? I know he would like this object a lot, and I can afford it no problem. He's had a number of huge outgoings this month, and he won't know what his bonus is until next week (and a chunk of that is earmarked for other things, including much-needed repairs to his family home abroad). Would I just be inviting drama if I went ahead and did it anyway?

Well, if you're gonna lie to him before you're even married, you will lie to him after the fact, too.  Please advise him to find someone else, quick!

Begs the question why you are there?

We're at the part of the evening where his boss is calling rivals the R word.

Do they know it is being live streamed on VJ?

Well, no, and I wasn't doing video. I was told to put down my phone though (rudeness not security issues). Just waiting now to go home, v tired.

No, I really wasn't! I know that when I get nervous about having to be around a bunch of strangers, I can overdo it, so I paid attention and alternated glasses of wine with water. I passed on the cognac. It was the men who really went for it at dinner -- we had started out the evening agreeing (Alex and me that is) that we would not talk about religion, politics, gender stuff, etc. Even his boss tried to steer the conversation back to industry gossip at the beginning when someone started talking about the impeachment proceedings. Then the guy to my right started going off on Trump, and the boss's wife (who is pro-Trump) got a little huffy and it got a little tense. But after everyone had another glass of wine (I think we were on hour two of four of the meal at this point) the boss started talking about his pet conspiracy theory about the real reason the US embassy was moved to Jerusalem: because there is some cabal that has influence in the White House that believes that when Jesus comes back he has to go to the American Embassy first to coordinate with the US as part of the end times and since he has to go to Jerusalem anyway (this part I don't get at all, not that any of it makes sense), Jesus will be expecting the Embassy to be there. I am not saying he believes that this will happen, but that he believes OTHER people believe this is necessary.

Welllllllllll, that kind of opened the floodgates, and now we were talking religion AND politics, and the girlfriend of Alex's best friend at work started talking about her sincere belief that we were on the edge of a Fourth Reich, and when her boyfriend replied that was hyperbole and offensive to him (he is Jewish), and how many times had he told her not to say that, especially in public, she said they would be coming for him first. Everyone kept drinking but I was really slowing down at this point because I didn't want to get sucked into it. And then Alex and another British guy at the table started arguing about Brexit, and the other guy was calling the Scottish Nationalist Party a bunch of ungrateful traitors, and Al called him a Very Not Nice and Gendered Word beloved by Scottish people, and then a female co-worker called him a misogynist for even thinking about using that word.  Someone asked, whatever happened to Paul Ryan? and called him "not exactly a profile in courage." Oh, and there was a good 20 minute chunk of time when half the table was trying to find a particularly unflattering picture of Trump on the golf course that another person half-remembered but couldn't find. I tried to help by Googling "fat Trump golf drinking water" but I couldn't find what was sought after.

Mostly I hung out with the boss's daughter, who is interning with one of the Kardashian sisters (Khloe? Kourtney? I don't remember) at the moment and talked about Calabasas and the Valley instead. It was FAR more intellectually stimulating than what was going on.

Basically it was an HR nightmare! The food was excellent though, I had the sea bass and cannoli for dessert.

In terms of recipes, I am going to start a batch of wholemeal bread soon and will post the recipe in a bit when I find it.
