In AP for 2 months - just asked for passport

Hi all

My fiancé had his interview Oct 8 in Nigeria and everything went well, but he needed to submit police clearance and daughter’s  birth certificate. The documents were dropped at DHL by Oct 15 and our case has been in AP since then. I emailed a request for status on Nov 26 and on Dec 9 the Embassy requested for my fiancé’s passport, which he dropped off.
I’m assuming they are ready to issue his Visa???? What has been the outcome with other members?

Why else would they need the passport?

YMMV

Did they receive the passport?, if yes has your online status change?

Because i think as soon as it changes over from immigrant to nonimmigrant they’re in the process of issuing your visa.

I checked online today and the date has changed, but the status still says administrative processing. I'll wait and check again next week to see if the date or status changed. Thanks for the additional info!

Here is one tip that may result in you finding out more information about the progress of your case at the embassy is to move up to different forums. Your case has progressed and you need to post in the K1 progress forum. You are posting in the basic K1 Process and Procedures Forum, it is time for you to move up your game to more appropriate forums, such as, the K1 Case Filing and  Progress Forum: https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/128-k-1-fiancee-visa-case-filing-and-progress-reports/, where folks generally discuss the progress of their cases, not necessarily  inquiring about the basic K1 process. Another forum that you should be checking out is the Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Forum: https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/89-africa-sub-saharan/page/2/ .  That regional forum is intended for folks to post questions and learn about specific issues about their specific countries' embassies/consulates. At that forum, there is even a very popular thread dedicated to the subject of K1 Visa Procedures for Nigeria Only. These forums have always been there, you just have to check out the VJ site, it is incumbent on you to do your research.

I suspect that many of the forum regulars, such as myself, sometimes grow weary of newbies not taking advantage of all of the great info available on this Do-It-Yourself (DIY) site. Often times newbies will take the easy, expedient route and ask a question that is asked and answered often multiple times every day. For example, one very often-asked question is about the length of time it takes to get through Administrative Processing (AP), no matter where in the immigration process. (BTW, the answer is there is no set time limit for the completion of AP.  :secret: )

Good luck on your immigration journey.

It is not as if the Search function on this website works seamlessly. In fact, it's very easy to get sidetracked and lost in between forums.

Also, quick reminder: being a regular on an immigration DIY website does not grant anyone "special benefits". If one is not feeling patient or is "weary of newbies", posting a short but informative answer would take just as much time and energy as posting a line of sarcasm.

Good luck to the OP. Luckily it will not be long now for the visa to be issued, and the passport, returned.

I wouldn't say that I grow weary of it in the 2+ years I've been here (I know you've been here longer), but I do see your point---there is a great deal of research that should be done when venturing through the immigration process.  And people should know the "basics" of any process they are taking part in---or at least try to learn the basics.

I try to remember how confused I was with the plethora of information out there when first starting out, how nervous and uptight I got over every little detail wondering "what's going to happen now?" when I see threads that seem repetitive in nature.  If it really bothers me (for whatever reason), I just skip the thread altogether.

:ot:You make some good points. Your above statement reminds me of an old phrase that my dear departed father used to say, "It is a poor workman that blames his tools."

The obverse of your quick reminder is also worth remembering, being a newbie on an immigration DIY website does not grant anyone "special benefits" to not do some easy preliminary research before posting a very often-asked question.

I already do that fairly often, and I would venture a guess that there are other regulars already do the same. Another thing that I have done I back away from checking in on the forum for a couple of days. Hey, didn't do the follow-up posting, I am just relaying my feelings and likely that of other forum regulars.

The ones that make me chuckle are those that ask a question that was just asked and answered either just above their post or a page or two prior to their post. It's just pure laziness to not read a thread and keep up with prior postings from where you left off. As a VJ veteran, I concur with the statements made by others veterans on what should or should not be. Just my opinion.

The clue here is did you find that it was in AP when you checked "immigrant" or did you see it when you checked "non-immigrant" status. The two DO make a difference. The proof is in the details.

Just about everyone gets this after their interview.  Based on the discussions I had with the case officer he informed me of these steps:

the first AP is the immigration unit doing the paperwork for approving the visa (immigrant)

the first ready is a notice that they are finished and the paperwork is being sent for visa issuance (immigrant)

the second AP is the visa issuance people doing their own paperwork (non-immigrant)

the second ready is that the visa has been issued and is currently being processed for delivery (non-immigrant)

Then "issue" is posted and the visa has left the BIG house to YOUR house.

Once you get that second ready, it should be sent out within a few days, although we received our visa before any of the various websites that allow you to look up the status said that it had been sent out.

Thanks for providing some additional info! When I checked yesterday the date was updated under “Immigrant” still in AP. It hasn’t moved to “non-Immigrant” with a date change yet. Hopefully it will be updated by the end of the week.
