Travelling overseas before or after K1 visa approval?

Hey guys,

I have just booked my K1 interview for January 29, 2020 but I do not plan on entering the US until June 2020 (still need to wrap up things here in Canada).

My fiancee and I are also planning a one month trip overseas in March 2020 (not crossing into the US of course).

Given the limited validity of the medical exam, RCMP record check, etc, would it be better if I reschedule my interview until after I come back from my trip in March? I am also wondering if there are any other things that can expire before then.

Thanks!

You are fine as long as you aren't entering USA. Also to "reschedule" your K1 interview can be a pain and take many months later as far as I know. I would just finish the interview and go ahead with your plan you'll be fine. Once you enter the US your Medical will be valid for another 6 months to apply for AOS. I believe medical exam is only valid for one year in total. Just keep many copies of each thing because once you come to the US you need to get all the affidavit, RCMP check, medical exam etc all over again when applying to AOS.

You'll have 6 months from the medical to enter after issued the visa. You can travel wherever you want, except the USA, provided you enter the USA and activate that visa, before the expiration date on the visa.
