Hello,

My finance just sent me the Letter of Intent To Marry letter. He signed it with UK date format (DD/MM/YYYY) instead of the US date format (MM/DD/YYYY). To an American it looks like it was signed on June 12, rather than December 6th. Should he resign the letter and send it back to me, or can I just put some sort of note (sticky note or something) indicating that this is the European date format?

I tried searching old posts, but I couldn't find anything. I apologize in advance if this has been asked before.

Ideally, he should've sent you the LOI with the US date format as that helps avoid confusion. The easiest fix is to have him send you another signed and dated letter via email with the US format. You can print it out and submit it with yours.

OR you can take the original letter with the UK format, simply write with a pen under his date "please note the date format is dd/mm/yyyy". Still I'd suggest the first option because it helps avoid any future inconveniences.

I learned the hard way, I hope YOU don't have to. Advice: learn, learn, learn.

Did you have to explain or put a note indicating it was in UK format?

It didn't even occur to me that it could be a problem

The IO are familiar with the ways different countries write dates :)

You and your partner will want to heed the expressed date format expressed in form instructions. For letters, likely a non-issue.

Completed: K1/K2 (271 days) - AOS/EAD/AP (134 days) - ROC (279 days)

Is the statement of intent required to be dated?  What do the instructions say?

YMMV
