So, I have my biometrics exam in about ten days for I-485 and EAD. I am currently living in Rhode Island but currently have a Connecticut license. I am going to try to get a new RI license, but I dont want to do that since it will take a few weeks to get my real license. So is it going to cause any problems if I go to my biometrics with a license that has my old CT address? Do they care which address is on the license as long as it is my ID?

Hrm. I'd personally play it safe and explain that the amount of time it was going to take to get your RI license made it impractical to order a new one right before the biometrics exam.

Alternately order it, use the temporary you'd get in the meantime to verify address and use your passport as photo ID.

26 January 2005 - Entered US as visitor from Canada.
16 May 2005 - Assembled health package, W2s.
27 June 2005 - Sent package off to Chicago lockbox.

11 July 2005 - RFE: cheques inappropriately placed.

19 July 2005 - NOA 1: I-130 received!
24 August 2005 - Biometrics appointment (Naperville, IL).
25 August 2005 - AOS touched.
29 August 2005 - AP, EAD, I-485 touched.
15 September 2005 - AP and EAD approved!
03 February 2006 - SSN arrives (150 days later)
27 February 2006 - NOA 2: Interview for 27 April!!
27 April 2006 - AOS Interview, approved after 10 minutes!
19 May 2006 - 2 year conditional green card.
01 May 2008 - 10 year green card arrives.

So I would have gone with your first suggestion, but I have been living in Rhode Island for about a year and a half now and have been too lazy :( to change my license (Did not know it was going to be an issue--rookie mistake). So I cant really say that I didnt have time to change my license before biometrics since I have been in Rhode Island for two years. So I guess the best strategy is to use a temp license from Rhode Island...along with my passport.

Now here is the tricky part, I am from Ethiopia where there is no such thing as a last name. My last name is my dad's first name and his last name is his dad's first name...you get the idea. When someone asks for your full name, you would say your name XYZ where X is your first name, Y is your dad's name and if more information is needed, you would give Z (your grand father's first name). So that is how my name appears on my passport...XYZ. Note tha my passport does not say anything about which is a first name or a last name, it just says name: XYZ. Now I have adopted or used my dad's first name as my last name (as most people from Ethiopia do). But as I mentioned, on my passport it says XYZ and not just XY. To complicate matters, when I was issued an F-1 visa (a long long time ago), they put in the name XY as my given name and Z as my surname. At that time, I was just glad to have gotten my visa (F-1) that I did not notice the difference nor that it mattered. Everything else (birth certificate, I-94, I-20 forms) are all under my name XY. I know this is a wierd situation, but I was wondering if the slight variation of my name on my passport and visa is going to cause any problems (for my biometrics and further on) and if so, what I would need to do to remedy the situation?

Thanks guys!
