We just got approved for the k1 petition and waiting on our NOA2 to arrive in the mail. My fiance and I want to plan a honeymoon in August out of USA after marriage but I am seeing that we may not be able to leave. How would we be able to leave the country for vacations after we marry?  Is it after he gets a green card?

Nothing stops you from leaving...the issue is getting back in.

 

After you marry you will file for AOS. You should file for an EAD + AP at the same time. There is no extra fee. The AP (Advance Parole) and EAD (aka work permit) are taking ~4-7 months right now. YMMV.

Do NOT make plans until they are in hand. The 4-7 months are only an average, and is based upon people who applied ~4-7 months ago (not those filing even today).

Or once the green card is in hand, you can use that to travel and return. But that likely will take longer (sometimes much, much longer) than AP.

If you leave the US w/o AP and before the green card is approved, your AOS application will automatically be denied as abandoned.

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

I would strongly encourage you to heed the forum general rule of thumb, do not make any plans, reservations, travel plans until you have your passport with enclosed visa in your hand, or the appropriate travel card (i.e., EAD/AP combo card, GC) in your hand. There are far too many variables in the immigration processes that trying to make reservations or travel arrangements,  that are not refundable or not exchangeable,  can lead  to severe disappointment and financial loss, and produce avoidable stress.
