Hi everyone! I have recently sent in my application to Vermont for Vawa, adjustment of status, work authorization and travel docs, along with the waived fees. Uscis has sent me a receipt that they have received my application. I believe that I will need to wait for my prima facia. Can anyone tell me how long it will take to get my work authorization and what are the next steps at this point? I have an attorney on the case, but she doesn't seem too helpful as I have a lot of questions and she doesn't really answer them! I am staying positive and I love this community so I don't feel alone! Any information that you can give will be great! Thank you!

Are you married to a USC? Did you include i485 and i765 (C9 EAD) in your application? If yes 5-7 months you may be getting the work permit. Next step is wait for update from VSC.๐Ÿ‘

I applied for i765, i131 c09. I received my combo card but lawyer says to wait for at least two weeks for ssn to be sent from USCIS to me just like the combo card, and then if during that time is not sent, go to a social security office. Is that correct? i didn't know I had to wait for the ssn in the mail, I thought I had to go to a social security office personally right away.

1-YES

2- a) YES, b) they just need to be legal here, c) Yes

3)Submit a police clearance from your home Country. Use affidavits of good moral character just if you prove that you can't getย ย  a police clearance ย from your home country.

4) Write again your affidavit stating the Courtship in detail.ย Get affidavits from your family mentioned you had a bonafide marriage(2 to 3 pages).Affidavits written in the U.S must be notarized, affidavits from your family living abroad don't need to be notarized.

Please read VAWA threads (10/17), ย there are a lot of informationย how to to prove bonafide marriage.

@sandranjย this just caught my eyes . You said whomever writes an affidavit to support bonafide marriage or whomever writes an affidavit that him or she witnessed abuse needs to be legal.ย
ย

in my case, the friend who wrote an affidavit for me , when she wrote the affidavit for me last year, she was waiting for an interview(AOS) , but on the week of the interview she and her husband had a fight in a Walmart and the store called the cops but the husband was not charged . He decided to move out of their home and did not show up for the marriage interview. So, USCIS cancelled the green card and gave her 30 days to leave . But, before that 30 days was up, she and her husband made up and her lawyer filed a motion to reopen the i-485 which is in process .ย
ย

my question is this - She wrote my affidavit for me that she witnessed the abuse when her AOS was pending an interview meaning she was legal. Is she still considered legal now that she filed a motion to reopen her AOS .ย
ย

anyone can input their responses too including @sandranj

I believe you have to go to a social security office to obtain your SSN.๐Ÿ‘

Yes, I was married to a use and we divorced in 2018. He was extremely abusive. I filed for vawa with my attorney and we sent in the the file a few weeks ago and I just received my receipt that they got it a few days ago! I included all the documents that the you said above. OK, Thank you very much! If I have a job offer before the 5-7 months, is there a way to expedite the work permit?

Your lawyer can submit an expedite request..but they will ask for evidence. The most common is financial loss for you or US company.. u can do that if you have proofs to provide

Sure the job offer is required. Your attorney should know what to do. But this is the first time you'll be working..kinda looks weird expediting..most folks who already have a job and expired EAD do that at the point of renewal..it's still a good deal if it comes at the time I estimated.๐Ÿ‘

Ok, thank you! I donโ€™t work right now. A friend of mine was telling me that I should go look for a job, get an offer and mail that to USCIS and they will send the EAD faster. ย I donโ€™t mind waiting, I have been through alot in my situation so I am just Thankful to God that I am now at this point with the case being put in. Thanks for writing to me and for your help!
