Marry again in America?

Hello,

I just arrived to Arizona today. My husband and I got married in my country, Korea. Do I need to get married again here? I ask because my husband called his insurance and they said I need to marry him again in America. Then he called the Arizona court, and they said we don't need to marry again, and to show the Korean marriage certificate to his insurance company.

Does all this sound right or accurate?

I think some states allow you to marry the same persons multiple times but mostly it would just be a celebration.

Seems common to have a glossy 'wedding' now even when you have already married.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Insurance co is wrong, court is right. Maybe ask to speak to a supervisor at the insurance co. And tell them what the court said .

good luck

Don't bother with that insurance company. There are many other companies with knowledgeable employees who don't put road blocks in your way to buy their products and services.

That insurance agent is misinformed.  You can’t get a marriage certificate if you are already married to each other or anyone else.  I live in Arizona, married abroad for years ago, and there’s no crazy law that requires as US wedding or certificate to be valid.
