Not sure what docs to carry now or if EAD renewal is needed

So we had the misfortune of having incorrect info on the issued GC when we did AOS. So we immediately completed an I-90 form and mailed the actual card back (and made a photocopy of the front just in case). The wait times on the I-90 seem long (we have yet to receive a NOA, and after that I expect 6 months of waiting). What do we do while we wait? Is he a LPR? Or is he now back on the EAD/AP card? Will we have to renew the EAD/AP while we wait? It feels like he's walking around in limbo and I'm not sure what we should do while we are waiting on USCIS. What can he travel on? What does he tell his employer? We answered he was a LPR on his I-9 with his employer. Is he, or isn't he now? Since we had to return the GC, did that change his status, or is he a LPR with no documentation to prove it?

He's a LPR. Before sending the card, I make an appointment at your local office and tell them what happened and ask for the stamp on the passport since you're not gonna have a physical card.

No more EAD/AP.

He is an LPR so EAD/AP is out of context. No need to do anything with the employer. Once he receives the NOA1, he can make an infopass appointment to the local uscis office and get the i-551 stamp that will be the proof of his LPR status up to a year. He  isn’t required to get that stamp but can get one if he wants.

Unfortunately our field office isn't accepting walk-ins or infopass appointments. We already sent off the GC at least a week ago. The only resource the Philadelphia field office provides on their website is to call the USCIS contact center. I guess we just live on a prayer that he won't be asked for documentation or anything. I'll pursue calling the call center for a stamp/appointment next week first thing in the morning when they open back up.

Now that it’s already sent out, you need to wait for NOA1 first and then call the customer service so they schedule you for infopass. They won’t stamp you without i90 NOA1.
