This is about moving people, not moving my stuff - reading some of the posts on here made me thankful that I won't really have take anything with me to the States - $1000 and $3000 for moving stuff?

I really want my family in Canada to be able to come to my wedding if possible but to do it we'd probably have to rent a bus or van. And not just a typical 7 seater van, but a 15 seater van. Anyone have any info on good companies etc. and a good guess as to how much it would cost? I'm factoring in both the cost of renting the van as well as the cost of gas both ways... it would be about 1600 km or 1000 miles for them (both ways, and I know it depends on where you get your gas too!)

When I was in school I know we used to rent buses for trips so I was wondering about that also...and that way maybe some of my friends here could join the bus to if they wanted cause that would help cut costs down, but seems that might still be more expensive...

It probably will vary by province but once a vehicle seats over a certain number of passengers the driver may need to have a certain class of driver's license. Probably best bet is to check into a chartered bus service that supplies the driver. They would be set up for the liabilty insurance for carry passengers. We rented a charted bus many moons ago to go to a sporting event up north but have no idea what it would cost now. You could also check with a rental company about a conversion type van, I'm not sure how many they would seat or the insurance or license requirement to drive one.

I personally think a 1000 mile trip in a school bus would be torture, at least a charted bus would have bathroom and would be comfortable.

Where and to from? Check out charters within your province - even charter flights may surprise you when it's not high tourism season!

Good luck, L.

Check out Hertz rentals. We've rented their 15 (or is it 12) seater van for trips before. I think they are about the only rental company that allow cross border travel as well. Dunno if they charge extra for that or not. Its been a while.
