Hi all. For example, if a Chinese citizen and an US citizen to get married in US or China, is there a difference in marriage divorce law? Of course there's the difference in cost, documents needed and etc.

And if they are to divorce in a different state in US or a different country, do they follow the laws from the state where they were married? Thanks

I’d imagine the laws of where the divorce is filed are the ones that are applied during a divorce .. Provided of course we’re talking about formal legal divorces (issued in a court house) and not customary ones that may apply to some countries.

not sure how any property settlements or child custody might turn out though.. example divorce in China wanting property in a state of America under community laws etc.. would be interesting to see how China would go at getting the usc to vacate his home

The Chinese court would make a ruling but enforcement would be for a court with US jurisdiction.

Sounds expensive.

Thanks for the input. This is more about older people getting married. No issue with child custody. It's more about how each person's own financial situation would change with marriage.

I know in US, different state of have different rules when it comes to divorce, who can get half or some percentage of the combined wealth n whatnot.

But before that I wanna find out about if there's a difference in where to get married vs citizenship.
