Looks like you can’t get a license until you have your EAD

I have. And I contacted the DMV and got conflicting and non-satisfactory answers, so I'm trying to ask actual people who have actually been through the process.

There's a note on the website that says,

"Note: If you do not have any of the above documents other USCIS documents may be presented but require verification, which may take more than one day."

So I wouldn't rule it out yet. However, it's still not totally clear which USCIS documents they accept.

Which USCIS documents do you have if you’ve only just filed AOS

Once you have filed for AOS & have NOA1 from USCIS that is your proof of legal presence in Michigan. They then verify through SAVE. The Secretary of State Office cover themselves by saying it could take up to however many months (I think they quoted 3 months to me). In actuality it took 10 days.

Documents I took to SOS Office - passport, birth certificate, social security number card, NOA1 letter from USCIS, marriage certificate, spouse's ID.
