Is it necessary to wait for packet 3 to schedule k1 interview? Bogota

Others have commented that it's not necessary to wait for packet 3 instructions to schedule the k1 interview. Is this true? CEAC says that the appointment will be cancelled if we schedule before receiving the instructions from the embassy because the case is not ready for processing (even though on CEAC the status says "ready"). Has anyone had their appointment cancelled by the embassy? Does that mean we'd have to start the process all over?

Ours took 7-8 weeks but it finally arrived. They are backed up with applications. Luckily there were visa appointments available as early as the next day!

Aparently now days aplicants must wait for the instructions, if scheduling, you'll get a call from the embassy asking to reschedule. Furthermore,  when finishing form ds160 there is a warning: "Do not schedule an interview if you have not received the instructions", someone said to me. For what I've read is taking at least 4 weeks from the time the petition get to the embassy.

somehow this wait seems longer than the original NOA2.  our wait has been since 12/27.  I'm giving it a few more weeks.

Since 12/27 NVC sent your case to the embassy in Bogota?

Please let us know once you get your P3 to try to estimate their times
