Hi All,

i was on F1 STEM OPT and recently,on October my H-1B visa(WorkVisa) got approved through my employer and my F1 got terminated and i am converted to H-1B.

There is a portal called SEVP portal from USCIS for F1 students and it is reflected in there that my F1 got terminated on the day my H-1B got approved.

I see that my H-1B got approved in the USCIS case tracking website and USICS sent an approval letter. But unfortunately USPS couldn't deliver it and it went back to USCIS.

My company immigration officer raised an erequest to get a duplicate, but no response till now. It's been 40 + days. And my company raised an ombudsman request as well and talked to USCIS officer on this.

The USCIS officer mentioned that they will talk to the officer who worked on my H-1B and will ask them to send a duplicate approval letter.

I informed DSO at my university about the change of status and the reason i couldn't sent the approval letter,as it is not delivered.

I see from my company paycheck that tax deducted is still the same as earlier. There should be an increase in tax when in H1.

So i am confused as to which status i am currently in.??

Does this affect me in anyway.?

Or I have to wait for the duplicate letter from USCIS and then change of status will get affected at my employer side.
And during the next tax returns i might have to pay to the government ,the taxes i missed during these months.

Any insights?

No, your status was changed when they approved the H1B petition. The fact that a piece of paper is missing doesn't change that. You'll get a duplicate one and that will be that.

Yes. Mainly just FICA taxes. You can have them withdraw it now if you want it. File a new W4. Taxes and immigration are two separate things. You control how much withholding by filing the W4. Or alternatively, you can just save 7-8% of your salary on the side and comes the tax time, it'll be pretty close.
