I thought this may amuse members who have been around here for a while, always good to see the oldies and goodies reappear.

George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer cleared of murdering an unarmed black teenager in one of Florida’s most high-profile criminal cases, launched a $100m lawsuit on Wednesday against the dead boy’s family, their lawyer and prosecutors.

Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin, 17, following a nighttime altercation between the two at his gated community in Sanford in February 2012. He was acquitted of second-degree murder in a closely watched trial that triggered a national debate over racial injustice, civil rights and gun violence.

In a 36-page lawsuit circulated by his lawyers, Zimmerman claims his reputation was destroyed by the “malicious prosecution” and alleges that the state’s attorney, Angela Corey, and her team of prosecutors relied on a witness who falsely claimed to be Martin’s girlfriend to testify against him.

As a suggestion to the mods here... when you find unpalatable arguing in a thread, why not kick out the offenders rather than closing the thread, like we used to do?  Or does the current software not allow that?

Kind of like Richard Jewell

Just saw there is a move out about him. Richard Jewell was never charged though. He had legitimate grounds for libel. Zimmerman was actually charged with murder. I don't see the comparison.

Zimmerman has nothing to lose though, and the attorney (Klayman) was fading into obscurity. Like most lawsuits of this nature, chances are pretty good that this case doesn't make it past the first hearing. Both had their 15 minutes of fame, but seems like they are looking for a way to monetize 15 more.

That guy has a snowballs chance... and his lawyer has a great record of frivolous lawsuits and losing.

I agree. At the same time, Zimmerman is the guy who auctioned the weapon used for 100K+. He has a reason to want to be back in the spotlight. As they say, just because he is crazy, doesn't mean he's stupid. I think he knows what he is doing.

I remember it well. He was all but convicted in the press. They were camped out on his doorstep
