I'll be calling them today; I've been anxiously awaiting for today to arrive. The 2-4 pm window is only open for me today, as I work every day this week from 2-10:30, except for today, which is 3-11:30. I've arranged for a friend to drive me to work as soon as I drop the receiver; I always end up on hold for a good 30 minutes, so here's hoping I'm not late for work!

Hello, yes it was me that asked for a reschedule. I am a CR-1 so I don't know if that makes a difference or not but it took 6 months and a letter to our senator to get my interview rescheduled. I assumed that I would be put to the back of the line but as the months went by I was beginning to wonder if they had forgot about me. The CR-1 initial interviews get set up by NVC so I don't know if this factored in to why it took so long or not. I don't know how the K1 would work.

I just e-mailed the consulate to request a reschedule. They replied that it had been noted and that an new interview letter would be sent out when a new interview date would be available.

So, to answer your question, yes you can ask to be rescheduled. I just wouldn't expect them to give you a date or time period that you specified. But maybe if you ask not to be rescheduled for 6 months then they may put it on hold and at that point will put you back in the waiting list. I don't know if there is an expiration on your application. Right now as slow as MTL seems to be scheduling I would think if you asked for a reschedule now that you probably wouldn't get another interview date for another 4-6 months anyways. And if you did get a reschedule sooner than later you can always ask for another reschedule. The whole issue of asking for a rescheudle shouldn't be a big deal. Things happen in life and sometime people can't make it to an interview.... and yes, I know there are dozens of people that would jump on an interview date.... but don't feel bad if you need to reschedule. You just have to realize if you do that you will have to be patient and be willing to endure a very long wait for another date.

I know when I was asking for a reschedule that (I think it was Jerseygirl) had one set for late Jan and wanted one for Dec. I so wished that we could have traded dates - I would have given her my Dec 22 for her Jan date. To bad MTL wouldn't go for a "Swap and Trade" for their interviews

Update!

Aaaaaannnnd the winner is: some random person on the wait list, I guess.

Talked to MTL, the woman canceled my appointment and put me back on the waiting list, but with the provision that I want a December interview date. Before letting her do that, I clarified that this would ensure me that it would be exactly in December. So, Victory!

She seemed to think it was not an issue to get one outside the normal wait list times, but I suspect if you wanted to delay it, say, for a month, you would have to cancel and go back on the wait list and take what you were given.

So, woot! No financial suicide for me! I am simultaneously relieved I'll be able to handle my debt and gloomy that I will be away from my beloved fiance for essentially another year. At least now I can be with him with a clear conscience and enjoy our life together, rather than having everything overshadowed by my tsunami of debt. (Thank you, Nini, for that brilliantly apt metaphor.)
