My wife and I live in Medellin Colombia . I'm a US citizen and my wife is a Colombian national with a tourist visa

We are thinking of apply for an immigrant visa to live closer to my mother that is not well

My question is what happens to my wife's tourist visa when I apply for and immigrant visa to the US

Will she still be able to travel to the States on her tourist visa while the immigrant visa is pending?

Or will it become null and void

Or will the tourist visa be good until the immigrant visa is approved

I'm assuming you can't have a tourist visa and immigrant visa at the same time

Once the immigrant Visa is issued,  the tourist Visa is canceled

YMMV

Nothing happens to the tourist visa when you apply for the immigrant visa.

Yes, she can still travel to the US while the CR1/IR1 process is pending.

Remember, admission to the US is at the sole discretion of the CBP at the border. The visa only allows her to travel up to the border to apply for admission to the US, not a guarantee of entry. The CBP may have additional questions to ask and may want to see proof that she will return to Colombia after the visit on the tourist visa, as she is supposed to do, when she enters on tourist visa. You may be prepared by having documents proving ties to Colombia such as housing, apartment, employment, families, ... She cannot enter with the tourist visa with the intention of adjusting status to permanent resident in the US.

Once she get the immigrant visa, the Embassy will cancel the tourist visa, because she is no longer a tourist at that time, she will be an immigrant.
