Hi,

My wife is applying for Adjustment of Status from an F1 visa based on marriage to an American citizen.  We submitted the I-130 and I-485 together and received the relevant I-797C's last week.

We realized that her birth date is wrong on two of those notices (for the I-130 and the I-765) and that the cause of the error was a typo on those two forms on our end.

USCIS's website doesn't seem to have any information on this topic.  The Emma tool points you towards E-requests which only seems to have a form for fixing typo's that were made by USCIS, not by the applicant.

I spoke with an agent on the phone and was told to write a letter explaining the mistake along with the correct info.  However I've also seen some suggestions online that I should include another copy of the form with the information corrected as well.

Does anyone have experience with this or more knowledge on the matter?  I'm worried by including another form it will lead to additional confusion, but this is mostly because I have no idea how they handle the forms / information that's sent in.  Plus the agent only said to send a letter, not a corrected form.

Also is there possible an E-request form that I'm not seeing that can be used in this case?

How about just do what they told you to do and not what "online" says.

Nah, there is no such thing. It is very minor, not even an issue. You can fix it at the interview.

For a lot of reasons - I could have misunderstood the agent; the agent could have misunderstood the situation and given the wrong advice; etc...

What makes you say that? I would imagine an incorrect birth date is a relatively large issue as it's a piece of identifying information, especially for the beneficiary on the I-130. Is that not the case?  Regardless we are hoping to get ahead of any possible delays this may cause.

Because it is a minor issue. Look, you are allowed to make mistakes. Mistakes/Typos/Errors do happen and those are not grounds for denial.
