Barr rejects key finding in report on Russia probe: report

Attorney General William Barr is rejecting a key finding in the Justice Department inspector general's report on the Russia probe, The Washington Post reported Monday.

People familiar with the matter told The Post that Barr said he does not agree with the report's finding that the FBI had enough intelligence to initiate an investigation into the Trump campaign in July 2016.

The long-awaited report from Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz is expected to be made public in a week. But a draft is being discussed behind the scenes, and the attorney general reportedly is not persuaded that the FBI investigation was justified.

The draft report is now being finalized and shown to the witnesses and offices investigated by Horowitz.

People familiar with the matter told the newspaper that Barr believes information from other agencies such as the CIA could change Horowitz's finding that the investigation was warranted.

The Post noted it was unclear how Barr will voice his disagreement with the report's finding. The department typically includes a formal letter response in inspector general reports, but Barr could also speak out publicly.

Trump has said the inspector general report would prove that intelligence officers under former President Obama were "spying" on his campaign and abusing their power to prevent him from being president.

Since the report has not been made public yet, how do we know what the key findings are?  Additionally, Horowitz's scope and reach is very limited in that he can only talk to current active DOJ/FBI employees, so giving this story the benefit of the doubt, I think Barr may have more information than Horowitz.

Remember 2018 and Horowitz's prior report where he described biased and criminal mindset and actions, yet concluded against all logic that there was no bias or criminality. It wouldn't be surprising that a Horowitz sequel would describe unjustified spying then call it justified. There was never a reason to believe that the IG would hold the bureaus accountable. It all rests with Durham, and even in this case, one should have similar expectations until proven otherwise.

Recall that in the vast majority of these leaks, whether it be ones Assange or Snowden did, or the handful that the Intercept were given and did pieces on shedding light on abuses, the only extreme few arrests ever made, were those who leaked things, not people who actually abused power.

These are not agencies that hold themselves accountable, too many people are either friends with them via connections, or afraid of them (hence all the politically correct fear of criticizing the bureau employees in general, because of their ability to retaliate and ruin anyone), and that's what's led to this rampant corrupt culture where they operate with impunity outside public oversight, and often outside all laws, as many of these leaks demonstrated. It's going to take some seriously driven will for someone to root out this corruption, and doing so is going to be a hazard against themselves for retaliation.

What seems backward to me is that the IG report is allowed to be reviewed by those named?  If the IG finds something criminal, why would the person accused be able to respond prior to an actual prosecution proceeding?

I am sure Barr will find a way to "summarize" the report giving some  the criminal allegations they wanted and then suppress the actual report from congress and the public.

Democratic party / leftists / and media are three things.

First of all, as we saw in the 2016 Democrat primary, that Party is anything but Democratic.  As to the media, there are left and right leaning media sources, so saying the Leftist media is just one entity.  Additionally, how can you tell the difference between the Democrat Party and the Leftist media?

Look,

You may not like the name Democratic, but that is the proper name. You don't put Chevr gas in your tank, you don't go to Cost warehouse store and you don't eat cherri breakfast cerebral.

Proper names matter.

I am not impressed with how either Party is run. Just look at the removal of the  choice of primary voters in South Carolina and Georgia. Voters are forced to vote for Trump.

Regardless, the Party of Democrats is anything but Democratic.  Who really cares about the GOP primary since it is a forgone conclusion.

The 15 percent of Republican voters who don't support who at least want to be heard?

Again, why change your rules to accommodate the current president? Answer: the current president cannot tolerate criticism or dissent. He expects total, lock step, obedience.

The President is also hand picking candidates in GA , LA and AL for lower offices.

This is dangerous for the long term health if the system.
