We met online. We joined Relationships.com around the same time. He sent me a smile so I read his profile. It was so similar to mine. Then I noticed he lived on PEI which happened to be the setting of one of my favorite stories. I smiled back. We've been together ever since. Last July we met in person and he proposed on the beach. It was perfect. Shortly after my visit, he was coming to Tennessee to meet my family. Before he arrived, my grandmother passed away. He went with me to Texas and supported me through the funeral. He endured the heat of Texas and my huge family. There have been several trips since then and we continue to talk everyday. I'm a lucky girl!

I decided to leave my then Career to travel the UK, and Ireland. Found myself staying at a hostel in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was traveling after finishing his degree..and working at this hostel. Trevor and I met Dec 29, 2005 in New Orleans doing Animal Rescue after Katrina. He had been down Sept - Oct, returning in Nov. We both remained in the city until March 2006.

Did many visits back and forth, both of us knowing how absolutely blessed we were to find in each other, kindred spirits, friends, playmates and lovers. Truly blessed.

He proposed at his parent's cottage on Pigeon Lake Oct 8, 2006 (perfect, beautiful, wonderful, romantic amazing night) and we filed in November. We've had more visits back and forth, and he graciously stayed for an extended period as my work life exploded and there was no way for me to deal with life outside of work, so he was there to do that. I canNOT believe that it could be the end of this year before we even get an interview, and I am sooooooooooooooo ready to have him home for good. Missing him is the worst!

So, that's our story.........the beginning, anyway

Peace ~

  • 1 month later...

I remember reading everyone's story about a month back and just never got around to writing mine up. It's really nice to hear how every one met :)

Just like a few people in this forum, I met my husband while playing World of Warcraft. I started playing in 2005 because my boyfriend at the time was always playing and well it looked cool and I wanted to be able to spend time with him.

About a year later, things in our relationship deterioted and we broke up, which left me feeling so free and happy. During that time, I reconnected with a friend I had met while playing the game. A guy that lived in Colorado, so far away from my Montreal subburb. Nonetheless he was someone I had always enjoyed talking to in game and on our guild forums.

We started flirting, and then it escaladed to calling eachother on the phone, and then to me saying : Would you ever come to Montreal to visit me ? He said yes, and well things have been wonderful since then. We talk on the phone every day for at least 2 hours, and this doesn't include the emails, and time we spend talking online using Ventrillo while playing World of Warcraft.

We first met in September of last year, in real life that is. His parents flew me over for their wedding vow renewal. Brett was scheduled to come at the end of the month to Montreal, but I got to meet him quicker :) Seeing him for the first time, no webcam, was just soothing, being in his arms was surreal and it just felt right.

He proposed in February, flew to Burlington, drove to my parents house in Montreal, and then to my appartment (using my spare key that they had) and surprised me. We got married the following month when I went for a visit and we will have a wedding ceremony(church) on September first in Montreal with our family and friends.

Meanwhile, we await our NOA2s. There seems to be a pattern recently where the I-130 is getting approved quicker, and my timeline seems to say it will happen to me, so we are considering the IR1/CR1 visa. I guess time will tell :)

Good luck to everyone on the same journey. :)

Ah!!! We're also talking about engagements, too, eh???

For about a month before we (My boys and I) went down to Kansas for Christmas, my lady, Kris, and I were perusing engagement ring websites... We were going to go the fiance(e) route, but had not formally proposed yet. Generally, we were going to go through the motion of putting the I129F application in for the K1/K2 visa, not really thinking about the actual engagement process. She really wasn't expecting me to do anything about it, what with some impending costly financial endeavors still to come later in the new year, and such.

Anyways, last November we're going through engagement ring websites (ice.com, zales.com, etc), of which she would say "this one's nice", "that one's nice", "I really like that one". Anyways, while she was going through rings on the websites, she was always coming back to this one ring on zales.com, of which, there was a Zales Jewellry store in Liberal (a small city in SW Kansas). So, about a week before we were to fly down there, I phoned Zales in Liberal. They didn't have this engagement ring in stock, but they were able to order it in.

So, the following week the boys and I flew down to the US and a few days before Christmas, I was able to borrow Kris's vehicle and drive to Zales, where I bought the ring (Ouch!!! When you think about the conversion between CDN and US dollars, a big hit there). I wrapped the ring up and placed it in with the electric blanket that I had also bought for her for Christmas, which was also wrapped.

Just a reminder at this point, no one knows that I have done this.... not my boys, not her kids, nobody!!!

Christmas morning comes... family gathering... her daughter, Monica, and boyfriend, as well as her son and my two boys all in the living room, her daughter is video-taping the opening of presents. Kris is ready to open the electric blanket. I indicated to Monica to video-tape her unwrapping the electric blanket. I tell Kris to open it up, see what she thinks of the blanket. She opens it up and this small wrapped box falls out... Well.... you could hear a pin drop!!! The whole room was silent. She opens up the box, and then I get on my knee... "Will you marry me?". She broke down, started crying, and said "Yes!!!!".

So, this was a very special Christmas for all of us...

Scott

I"m not a Canadian couple, but I am a silly romantic. This is a beautiful story....

Wah! I want a romantic proposal too :)

Our first face to face was...life changing. That first eye contact, that first touch of his hand on my face and that first kiss...I was hooked, sunk, and any other adjective you can think of...I was IN love. That week definately changed our "friendship". He and I finally admitted we were "IN" love by September. We said it at the same time to each other, not knowing the other was going to say it. We do things like that a lot anyways.

Karen...totally how I felt about P.

I love hearing these stories because so many of them are so similiar to mine. I spent a lot of time feeling crappy because I felt I was the only one going through this situation. But it's good to know that there are a lot of people out there that have braved the challenges of long distance love.

I met my husband, Jared, on an online music forum. We both loved the same band I was pretty much queen of the forum. I had been on it for years before he came. He was an absolute ####### to me online! haha. He annoyed the hell out of me, often contradicting everything I said. He was a little smartie pants. I saw a picture of him online and was instantly attracted to him. I felt like he was the boy in kindergarten that teased me over and over again but underneath it all, I knew he was only doing it because he was fond of me. We talked online for hours a day. (we were students at the time)

Well I asked if I could call him on the phone and he agreed to it. After that, we talked every day until I walked with my suitcase in hand to the downtown Ottawa, Ontario bus station and got on a bus to new jersey. The first time I saw him I just knew this was it. That was the story of our lives for the next two years. Buses and airports...something I'm sure all of you can relate to. A lot of tears every time it was time to leave. When you find true love it's impossible to let it go, no matter what the odds are against you.

He finished school and got a full time job. I was still in school and working full time until December 2006. We realized it was no longer feasible to travel as we could not get time off our jobs and we couldn't afford it really anymore. So we got married on May 29th, 2007 and applied for AOS shorty after.

While I'm happy to be with my husband full time, part of me misses Canada a lot. There are a lot of things I'm not used to over here and sometimes it is frustrating. I'm only 23 so I guess I'm a bit of a baby haha.

Any ways, it was good to hear your stories you guys and thanks for letting me share mine with you.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Timeline

David and I met through an online game; Star Wars Galaxies. It's funny because I never was much into gaming or Star Wars, but a friend of mine had introduced me to the game, and after one day, I was hooked.

I met David randomly one day while "grinding" (gaining experience in non-gamer lingo) in a popular place called the Ryatt Trail. He was in my group, and we chatted a bit.

The next time I heard from him, I was playing a different character of mine which was a Bounty Hunter. David's main character was a Jedi, so when I went to the bounty hunter terminal, and "pulled" a random bounty, I was quite shocked to have David's name come up. I hadn't talked to him much at this point, but I remembered how nice he was, and couldn't fathom the thought of hunting and down and attempting to kill him lol.

I sent him a message a minute later telling him I had his bounty, but couldn't bear to take the mission, since he was such a nice guy, etc etc. He laughed and told me to come hunt him down anyways since he was bored, but I still couldn't stand the thought of trying to kill the nice guy, so I dropped his mission. We talked for a while after that, and laughed how I just couldn't bear to take his mission (he would have beat me anyways, hehe), then one of us logged off, and that was that.

Not long after that, he canceled his subscription to the game out of boredom (the game had been going downhill for months,) and since we still didn't know each other very well, I didn't hear from him again until he resubcribed a few months later.

....*A few months later*....

In real life, I was getting my life back on track. I had just come out of a bad relationship and had decided to turn my life around and get where I wanted to be. I was training hard-core at the gym to join the RCMP and was on a last month subscription to Star Wars Galaxies ( I knew I wouldn't have time for games once I joined the RCMP, so I had cancelled my account.)

In real life, David was also getting his life back on track. He had also just finished adjusting from a long term relationship, and was getting used to the whole being single scenario, as well as wanting to do something different with his career. Our initial simliarities our what made us fall for each other, since we could both relate to each other's situation.

Soooo....

David resubscribes to SWG after a 3 month leave. I'm still there, but my account is expiring 20 days from that date. The day after he resubscribes, we happen to run across each other in one of the more popular towns in the game, and get to talking again. This time, we talk for a couple hours and learn more about each other. I learn about David's life, he learns about mine. Later on that day, at the gym, while working out, I couldn't keep my mind away from him. I couldn't help myself from thinking "Who is this guy, and why can't I get him off my mind?!"

From that day forth, we talk everyday, and also exchange msn ID's as well as email addy's.

David knew that my time in SWG was coming to an end, so I guess that put the pressure on. February 14th (Valentine's Day..aww so romantic) he sends me a tell ingame and tells me he's fallen for someone he doesn't think he can have. Of course, I knew by that time who that person was, and told him nothing is impossible.

We ended up talking all night about how we could possibly make things work. I knew from the get-go that him moving here to Canada was not an option, since he was much closer to his family than I was, so we started planning around that. I decided that my dream of joining the RCMP could be altered a bit (joining the Coast Guard eventually), and he decided he could put college off for awhile in order for us to be together.

I flew down for a visit on March 15th. The six days I spent there were the most amazing six days of my life. I remember that whole trip in vivid detail, and still have tears spring to my eyes when I remember us saying good-bye at the airport for the first time, and me promising him "I'll come back."

Three months later, after lots of planning, I visited for 4 months. This was our un-official test run. Needless to say, everything was beyond wonderful again, and we married Sept. 9/2006 (3 days before my B-day, 6 days before his:)

To this day, I can't believe how extremely lucky I am to have found someone like David. We have gone through unbelievable amounts of obstacles, stress, etc, and he has always been the solid one in the relationship who was held everything together for both of us, and kept us strong.

How we met, huh? Alright, here we go...

Okay, both my fiancee and I enjoy computer games. In fact, we were playing them long before it become "trendy" to do so (such as with Myst or World of Warcraft or The Sims and other high-profile games) back in the 1980s, mostly with the Sierra On-Line's adventure game series.

So fast foward to sometime around 2000. Sierra had message boards for all of their games (the boards still exist, but Sierra was swallowed up years ago by corporate giant Vivendi Universal) and I had been on one of the non-adventure game boards for a few years before that (possibly from around 1997 or so). Around 2000, I decided to venture outside the board I normally go into and hopped into one of the adventure boards, where my future fiancee later joined up a little while later.

Now, you have to understand something... I'm not exactly the "Mr. Super-Friendly-Party-All-The-Time-With-A-Lampshade-On-His-head" kind of guy right now. Back then, I was roughly a thousand times worse. In other words, I was a real jerk. Intelligent and well-spoken (even those who didn't like me admitted this), but I was still a jerk. I've mellowed over the years quite a bit.

Anyway, the point of that last paragraph is that my fiancee didn't like me very much back then. She didn't hate me, but she didn't care for me either. I didn't give too much thought to her either -- I didn't like or dislike her, I was too wrapped up in myself to care or notice.

So as the years progressed, and I slowly transformed into a member of the human race, my fiancee and I began talking more on the message boards. Not a whole lot, but we'd have bouts of "witty banter" back and forth and enjoy each other's humor (or humour, such as the case may be).

Eventually, she began to change her opinion of me and wanted to "get to know me better" even if it meant only as a friend, but my fiancee can be terribly shy at times, so she wasn't sure how to go about doing it. Fortunately for the both of us, I made the first move. There was a chat room set up for members of the message board that some people went to on the weekends. My fiancee was a frequent visitor, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. I found this out (I've got spies, I tell you! Spies! Bwahaha!) and made a point of dropping in and purposefully starting a conversation with her -- both in public and in private.

I didn't know it at the time, but she was actually quite thrilled that I was talking to her. She also later told me that one of the reasons she took me seriously was because I spoke to her "as a person" and not "as a sex object," which a lot of men tend to do, online and off. Truth be told, I wanted to get to know her better before getting into any sort of relationship with her -- after all, how did I know she wasn't a lunatic or worse?

So eventually our relationship progressed from there, and at one point, I made the decision to fly up to Canada to visit her. That was our first time together and we had an absolute blast. We've had two visits since then and our next visit is in two days! I'm picking her up at the airport on Saturday, and we're both extremely excited. :D

That's our story, edited of course, to leave out certain names and details, to "protect the innocent." B)

If you've read this far (and actually got through that whole post without your eyes glazing over or passing out), then I thank you for your time, since you'll never get those minutes of your life back.

Ok, I'll elaborate on my previous 3 word answer. :P

We met online on a Christian website's chatroom. During the course of the public chat (we were talking about how fun it would be to go on a trip to meet all the members in person), the conversation went something like this:

him: Oh, Nova Scotia, that's near Germany, isn't it?

me: Oh lord, another dumb yankee that didn't pay attention in geography class! :P (east coast of canada, BTW)

him: LOL

me: LOL

About 5 minutes later, I got a PM from him apologising to me if he offended me, to which I replied that maybe I should be the one to apologize for calling him a dumb yankee! ;) We've been inseparable ever since. :)

We met online at a music message board. We admired each other's posts especially in the film forum as we both love cinema. Once we started chatting on Yahoo IM we both knew we had a future together, we would chat for sometimes 7 hours at a time. I asked him first if he would like me to visit him in Canada, but then we decided he should visit me in the U.S. first. That first visit was on Valentine's Day 2004, and in less than two weeks we will celebrate out three year anniversary. We still post on the message board that brought us together.
