Hi all,

I posted this in another forum a few weeks ago and thought I would post here too.

My fiancé had his interview in Montreal on October 16th, and it went smoothly. They looked over his docs, asked a few questions, handed him his pink paper and said it would be two weeks until the docs came back. Well, we're about 7 weeks out now and it's still in Administrative Processing. Case was last updated on November 20th.

I've read thread after thread about AP and it's just so strange to me that it's taking this long and we haven't heard anything from Montreal. He hasn't gotten any requests for additional documents, no 221g or any correspondence from the embassy.

I can see a couple of reasons why it would be taking so long. I was only at my job for about 2 months at the time of his interview. It exceeds the income requirements, but we decided to add my mom as a joint sponsor just in case. This might lead to additional processing. I saw the embassy moved locations earlier this month, and that combined with the Thanksgiving holiday most likely caused delays. But other than that I have no idea.

I'm just extremely anxious about this. Our wedding is on February 8th and I'm so nervous that he won't get his visa documents in time, and I have no idea what we're going to do if it gets to that point. I sent a message to the embassy today asking about his status through the Public Inquiry Form, and I'm hoping I hear back from them soon. If it gets to January and still nothing, I might contact my congressperson and see if he could help.

I'm posting here for moral support 🥺and to see what your experiences were like with Montreal. How long did it take you to get back your documents after the interview? What's the longest you've heard of people waiting in AP when the embassy approved them at the interview?

Thanks all! I'm seriously praying this is over soon.

Is your fiance a Canadian born citizen? Like actually physically was birthed in Canada? As far as I remember when I was going through the process a few months ago people who we're Canadian citizens but not born in the country took 8-10 weeks to get approved and sometimes longer. People who we're naturalized in Canada take longer too.

Since I was born in Canada and had all my documents taken care of it only took 2 days after the interview to get my passport back. I think times are slower now though, but not 100% sure.

Yep, he's Canadian-born! Hasn't lived anywhere else. His father was also a Canadian citizen by birth and his mom is a U.K. citizen who immigrated to Canada when she was a child.

Did the addition of your Mom as a sponsor only come at the last moment?.. like at the interview? If so, perhaps that might have something to do with the delay you are experiencing. But at the same time I would think that if he was verbally told he was approved and that he would be receiving his passport and K-1 visa in about two weeks time.. and its been seven weeks.. you are certainly entitled to ask them whats gone wrong. Your Fiance should not have been told two weeks if there was any chance it would go much longer than that.

You say you sent them a message on the public inquiry form. I think I would back that up with an email to the Consulate's immigrant visa email address.. montreal-iv-dv@state.gov

Removal of conditions

05-02-23 I-751 sent via FedEx.

05-03-23 I-751 delivered to USCIS address in Tempe AZ.

05-09-23 Check for $680 cashed.

05-15-23 Received I-797 NOA (48-month extension). A separate letter saying biometrics to be re-used. A third letter giving online access code.

Yes, we did add her at the interview. I have no idea what's going on... I did send them an email at that address as well as the inquiry form. Maybe I'll try calling, but I doubt I'd get through haha.

Ah ha. That's probably it then. I think it takes about three business days to receive a response to an email. Be sure and share with us what they say.

I feel your pain. Our case has been in AP since October 2nd, 221(G). We haven’t heard anything from the consulate yet, we’ve sent the right documents though. We’re still in the waiting game. Have you finally heard back from them?
