ya, i just love how the gov't won't do anything about all the illeagals. but, they can't wait to hit those of us doing it the right way in the wallet.

I have to say Mikeo...I totally agree!! I feel it's not right for those of us who ARE trying to do things legally to be the ones now having to pay for all the illegals too.

I would hedge a guess this is incorrect. The fee hike is to support exactly those who are going through the legal system because obviously - the illegals do not pay fees!

USCIS had to present factual data to support their new fee proposal. It was approved based on current immigration needs.

But someone has to pay for any work done by USCIS on the part of illegals and since they are not paying for it we are stuck footing the bill. Whether it's to process them to deport them or whatever.

Like I have said before, will the 3X increase in fees get be 3X faster service?

Surf around some of the other threads on this topic. And read the document USCIS prepared to support the fee increase.

The increase is meant to maintain current processing times - which are backlog free, for now, but won't be for long, if funding doesn't increase. USCIS is self-funded, meaning no extra appropriations. It survives on the fees it collects.

About the fee increases, I don't know if any of you have looked in depth into the fees but not only is the AOS I think it is over $1000 but there's a supplemental form that has to go in with it which is also $1000, so it's really more like $2010. I almost threw up when I looked at it. The positive side, the work permit and travel parole is free with the $2010 for the other forms. Someone please let me know if I'm wrong but that's how I read it.

Most people do not have to file the supplement - never seen anyone in the AOS forum who had to.

Indeed form I-485A, which costs an extra $1000 on top of the $1010 for AoS, is for very specific cases. Read its instructions to find out!

As a rule this form is not required and most people file the standard AOS application of $1010. I can assure you though that AP and EAD are not thrown in as "freebies", their fees are just incorporated into the fee. USCIS isn't Wal-mart with a "three for $1010!!" :P
