just venting about fee increase

Been waiting patiently to get my divorce over, so I can get the awful past behind me and move on with better things.

Prior to the announcement of new fees, we mane plans for my honey to come over fro the UK for the first two weeks of August, and for us to sit down and get the paperwork done then, to be ready to submit when the divorce was finalized. (Originally the divorce was to take until the autumn to be finalized, so we thought August was a smart date.)

Now I am told the finalization date will be August 15th!

I am happy to get it done sooner, but... we miss the new fee cut-off by only two weeks!!

Sadly my soon-to-be ex has been a deadbeat dad all these months, so scraping together money for food is tough, let alone the additional money for fees. If the plane ticket for August was refundable, we'd cash it in. It will take us months to both come up with the extra money now.

And on top of it all, we will be in line behind a huge backlog of people who rushed to get the paperwork submitted before July 30th.

I just need to know it will all be alright in the end, but on days like this it feels like the world is against us.

:crying:

Just curious...if feeding yourself and your children (or child) is this hard, how will you be able to meet the 125% poverty level of support for you, your children (or child) AND your fiancé?

Thank you for your concern. :)

(actually didn't mean to put that part in bold... )

We have numerous people willing to be sponsors for us when the time comes.

The current money problem is that my ex is trying to hurt me by not paying his support. He claims that since the police removed him from the home, I am the one currently responsible for paying the full mortgage payment for our house (which a judge has said I am NOT). And, money we have in the bank is frozen right now... he and his lawyers are bastards for sure. His family is wealthy, so he has no worries. But I am struggling now on less than $100 a week. The good news is that what he hasn't rightfully paid will be awarded eventually in the settlement.

good luck

keep a positive outlook.. I don't know if you've watched "The Secret" but I'd look into it.. It's all about focusing only on the end destination and visualizing it in your head

and that constant visualization is what brings it to you (law of attraction)

I know I sound crazy but I think it might help

Lawyers! Lawyers! Lawyers! Well, actually those in Family Law. Straight out, I can't stand how they benefit constantly antagonizing divorce situation for their own financial benefit. :ranting:

If you think the K visa fee hike is bad, take a look at the AOS one. I-485 is over $1000! crazy...

Yeah... looking at that looming ahead, too! Good luck with your filing, though, psiprez. You generally will find lots of support here!

I think that the fees are unfair to the people who started the process prior to the increase. Is there not a grandfather clause that would prevent this from affecting everyone.

If the process has already been started and the fee paid was the current one ($170) then you are not subject to the new fee increase. However, once the time comes to apply for AOS the fee increase will affect. After all it is essentially a new process, new application. Same goes for lifting conditions further on down the road.

I have to say Mikeo...I totally agree!! I feel it's not right for those of us who ARE trying to do things legally to be the ones now having to pay for all the illegals too.

I agree about the illegals, but I would like to think the increases are to hire more people, improve the process, etc...I can dream, can't I? If the HAD to raise the fees I wise it at least weren't such a HUGE increase! We don't even want to apply for Advanced Parole...

I would hedge a guess this is incorrect. The fee hike is to support exactly those who are going through the legal system because obviously - the illegals do not pay fees!

USCIS had to present factual data to support their new fee proposal. It was approved based on current immigration needs.
