My wife was admitted to the US on k-1 visa, she has a social security number but according to healthcare.gov she needs to wait until she has a green card until she can get health insurance. Is this correct?

Not correct and that's not what the site says (or the law). If you have applied for Adjustment of Status, your NOA1 is a qualifying document, the second soonest document would be an EAD (if you also applied for that), and then finally the green card.

Nothing stopping you from applying right now, and if you're going to use the exchange, it's currently open enrollment, so take advantage of that.

Not correct. I added my husband to my insurance, through healthcare.gov, even before we applied for his AOS. We used his I-94, which they accepted, and shortly after added his NOA1 (for his I-I-485) when it arrived.

One of the questions asks about a change of immigration status since October 3rd. Should I mark this as yes and but the eligibility date as the noa date of I-797 for adjustment of status which was October 15?
