Nope, I live by myself, my parents are our joint sponsor but I don't live with them, different addresses on the I864 too. Lady on the phone told me it's required to upload a letter stating I'm unemployed, but when I check the required documents for those who are unemployed, it says nothing about a letter of unemployment, so I'm calling again to see what someone else says

No worries, just wanted to make sure you didn't live together because often you will get an RFE to add the joint sponsor parents as household members since you share an address.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Thank you! It's just so frustrating. I don't understand why I would need a letter stating I'm unemployed when the I864 clearly states it already and NVC's website says nothing about a letter either :(

I’m very frustrated that they are not consistent and I think that is what is causing the backlog for a lot of people... This is causing too much stress for everyone🤯

Exactly, if neither NVC's website nor the I864 instructions nor the embassy website says I need a letter stating my unemployment..then how would I know to submit it in the first place?!

I don’t think it’s asking for a letter saying your unemployed... I think it’s refering to explain how your supporting yourself whilst unemployed?

But yeah totally confusing... seems they making their own rules as they go

Dunno, NVC message said "Submit proof of [my] current employment" but I have none. So I called, and she told me "You were supposed to submit a letter just stating that you are unemployed". But it says this nowhere!

Look at wording... it’s not a letter saying unemployed... it’s about evidence of income whilst unemployed.. student benefits, unemployment payments? Disability? How are you supporting yourself if funding is not from earnings?

For those who are unemployed or retired, submit a photocopy of ongoing income from other means, such as:

  • retirement benefits;
  • other household members' income; or
  • other significant assets."

Yeah, but she didn't say any of those. Only said "Just write a letter stating you are unemployed, sign and date it, scan it, and upload it". I don't have any other income besides financial aid which helps pay tuition and that's all. The rest is mostly help from family members. My husband is the breadwinner and already has been unofficially "hired" here in the US by a man my dad works with, but I have no income myself. But she didn't even say to upload proof of other income, only "letter stating that you are unemployed, because some embassies ask for it"

Then I’d write a letter saying “I’m currently unemployed since xxxxxx, and am financially supported by my husband and other direct family members whilst partaking within higher education” or words to that effect.. that way you kill 2 birds one stone..

My confusion is just that such a letter isn't mentioned anywhere, so I don't know how or why I would have to upload it, or how I would have even known to do so in the first place, and wait another 5+ weeks, it just seems ridiculous. I'm on hold with NVC again now to see what a second rep might say because I've learned from calling USCIS that some people just don't care as much and will give an answer just to get you off of their line

Ya I don't think there will be a way around it. Just upload it as quick as you can and hope you get DQ after a few days rather than another month if the 2nd or 3rd rep tells you the same thing.

The email also said "proof of employment" instead of "proof of income" so I'm not really sure what to make of that either. It's all so weird, why aren't they just upfront about it from the get go?

My profile also says "accepted" under everything, nothing says "missing" or "rejected", etc

🤷‍♀️ They suck.. simple as that.. unfortunate,y NVC wants something we know that much.. and seems to be around employment, but the requirements is on about income whilst unemployed.. I’d just upload a quick letter explaining that your unemployed and how your being financially supported whilst going to school, that way you tick off both boxes..

Is it unfair, unclear, confusing yes, I don’t disagree, but at the end of the day, they want what they want and all we can do is our best to give it to them ☹️

Yeah, guess I'll just bite the bullet so to speak and upload it. Really wish they would state somewhere to write a letter stating you're unemployed, if it did I would have already done it initially. Hoping that it doesn't take another 5 weeks or more to review but with the luck we've had so far in this process (save for the I129f) I'm not counting on it taking any sooner :(

If they stated those things they wanted up front, it would be too easy, let alone logical.. governments 🙄

im expecting an RFE also and uploaded everything they asked for... I’m personally waiting for them to ask me my employment history and education given they skipped those questions within the visa application for some unknown reason.. that and maybe proof of Domicile for my husband (even though you’d think his working for the same company for 20 years within the us would kind of indicate he lives there) 🤷‍♀️ Or they will tell us to fill out the other AOS given we filed EZ under which we very clearly qualify for..

they definately dont make this process easy, that’s for sure.
