Hello everyone!
So I am going through Green Card process just waiting for the interview scheduled (was waiting since Oct 18) and my Ead+Ap got approved and got the combo card and my SSN this day 11/30. So when I saw the SSN card it says “Valid for Work only with DHS Authorization”.

So with that restriction, can I still open a bank account, put my name on lease or put my name under my husband’s insurance, etc without any problem with the restricted SSN?

Thank you!

It is valid for any and all purposes except work.  For it to be valid for work you need to couple it with EAD card

YMMV

My husband was able to use his SSN card, with that restriction, when we opened our joint account and when I added him to my health insurance with no problem at all.

Think about it, your valid Employment Authorization Card (EAD) / Advanced Parole (AP) combo card, is your temporary authorization to work and travel internationally while your Adjustment of Status (AOS) application is being adjudicated. Your combo card issued by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), an agency of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), is the temporary authorizing document mentioned on your Social Security card.

After you are approved to get your 2-year conditional Green Card (GC), you will be a Legal Permanent Resident (LPR), the EAD/AP combo card will be invalidated. After you get your 2-yr GC, you will need to go to your local SSA office with your GC and request that they issue you a new card without the work restriction notice.

Good luck on your immigration journey.
