Name change & application pending

What happens if you filed a I-130 for a relative but you're going to change your name? Will the application be affected? Because your id will no longer match your paperwork.

 

Also we might not be able to change the name for the home country passport just yet and only the US documents for now (US driver's license etc).

 

We plan to go to the embassy for the interview for the beneficiary (a minor) and I know it's not mandatory but still.

Perhaps provide an affidavit plus backup documentation, or at least a "memo for the record" plus documentation, for the relative's interview.

 

Common sense would suggest that the applicant should also mention the change verbally to the consular employee collecting the documents and to the interviewing CO, purely for clarity.

 

In case something is needed far in advance of the interview (versus same-day), why not e-mail the consulate now, to mention the situation and to inquire?  They might have you e-mail the name-change information directly to them.

Then you have time.  As the names are changed, save and scan the relevant paperwork so that you can react readily when "interview things" begin to happen.
