Passport Renewal in the US while I-485 application is pending

Hello! I read that one of the requirements for passport renewal here in the US (consular office is in Chicago) is a copy of either green card or US Visa. My fiancé visa just expired last November 27, 2019 and I’m currently awaiting for the NOA1 for my AOS application.

My question is, is it possible to show the NOA1 in place of either the green card or US Visa to apply for renewal? I’m also doing ROM and notice of action is one of the allowed requirements to show proof of Philippine citizenship. I’m sorry if this has been discussed here before. I just can’t find any info that says it’s ok. It’s hard to get through the consulate when calling them.

Thanks in advance!

Have you checked the Philippines consulate website? When my husband needed his (Haitian) passport renewed we didn’t have to show proof of his legal presence in the US- we brought in his sooon to be expired passport, photos, money and form that they provided.

edit: I just reread your post; too early to have comprehended it completely sorry about that. I don’t have personal experience but the NOA1 May work in place of the green card/recent visa expiration. Did her passport already expire ?

im sure you searched but here is the site http://www.chicagopcg.com/forms_eppt.html

Yes it is possible to use a copy of the NOA1 and copy of the visa in her passport.      You must file ROM before passport renewal,  it is possible to do both during the consulate visit but you must schedule ROM first and allow enough time between that and then passport renewal.

Email the consulate.. you may have better luck getting a reply.

When I did my ROM with the consulate outreach in my area, they suggested that I do the passport renewal too to reflect my new last name. I hesitated because I am in the middle of AOS too (filed September this year) but they assured me that I will have the old and new passport back in 4 to 6 weeks. They also say that I can 'borrow' the old passport if I plan on travelling.

New Petition:

Apr 5,  2023: Naturalization

Apr 6, 2023: I-130 for my mother

Apr 6, 2023: NOA1

Apr 9, 2024: Approved

Apr 13, 2024: Sent to NVC

Apr 18, 2024: Received email fr NVC and paid the AOS/IV fee

Apr 23, 2024: CEAC website shows "Paid"

Apr 25, 2024: Uploaded Civil and Financial documents

May 1, 2024: Documents accepted except for marriage certificate (unreadable) and death certificate (wrong file)

May 3, 2024: Ordered marriage certificate and death certificate from PSA online

May 9, 2024: Received email from PSA that marriage cert is blurred/eligible--will need 15 more days for reverification

May 22, 2024: Marriage Cert received from PSA (death cert was delivered 2 weeks earlier)

May 23, 2024: Uploaded new files to the CEAC website

May 29, 2024: Documentary Qualified

July 13, 2024: Expedite Request to NVC

July 15, 2024: NVC responded that it will forward the request to the embassy

July 16, 2024: Expedite request rejected by the embassy

What does renewing your passport or not have to with AOS?  No reason to be hesitant

YMMV

The requirement is stated in the ROM list, the OP wants to renew passport in married name.

Four (4) photocopies of additional proof of Philippine citizenship of the Filipino spouse/s (green card, US visa, US Naturalization Certificate for former Filipinos, Identification Certificate for dual citizens)

Well, there are few things about it that made me hesitate:

1) Not knowing how long it will take for them to get it done (this was addressed)

2) How well they are going to do it (possible mistakes in the printing, etc.)

3) Having to shell out an extra $70 on top of the $35 that I was prepared to pay. They only took cash at the outreach so my husband had to drive out to the nearest ATM again.

4) I got a good 9 years left in my passport's validity and kind of wants to make sure I make the most of the $30 passport renewal fee of my old passport. LOL.

5) I am not bothered at all by having to show my marriage certificate all the time to explain the name difference as I always carry a copy with me anyway.

Not having a passport as a form of ID was not a concern for me since I already have a driver's license.

Anyways, husband says to just get it done so I did it because I am such an obedient wife. Haha!

If you have time on your passport (9 years), and are good with carrying a copy of your marriage certificate then follow your inclinations  ...

It is for filing ROM is where the consulate asks for the "evidence"
