he's not here yet unfortunately.

I go to a Korean church - so will he when he gets here. I think the support of a Korean-American community will be very important to him. Especially since he does not speak English very well. The people at the church have mostly been in America a long time and can help him a lot.

I am the foreigner and haven't met any brazilians here yet. So I just visit and talk to my husband's family and friends. I haven't got a job either so I haven't been able to make friends of my own yet.

My husband's closest friends in the US so far are Algerian. They all met at the mosque, and share the same religion and similar culture, so it's natural for them to gravitate toward each other. It gives him a bit of "home" in the US. He's also friends with most of my friends, who are American, but he sees his Algerian friends more regularly.

We have a Brazillian group that meets once a week when the University is in session. One of the exchange student/ teachers from RG do Sul that teaches at UNM became very good friends with Val and she also stayed with us for a few weeks before she left for summer break back to Brasil. We were also lucky enough to meet another Brazilian/American couple in the neighborhood when we purchased our house recently. And, we met some more folks at a Capoiera performance this last weekend that is trying to encourage us to participate in their activities! But mostly we just hang out together with our kids and work on our house.

10Yr GC arrived 07/02/09 - Naturalization is next

The drama begins - again!

And now the drama ends - they took the Green card . . .
