Has anyone received proper communication from USCIS, rather than checking their case number and seeing it has been approved? I'm curious to see how long it will take to received that letter or text message...

I have. Yesterday

Yes and no on the extension of the validity of the NOA2. The embassy is the one that will extend it but it only does so with a valid reason. I don't believe they would consider work a valid reason. It's kinda like thinking what is more imporatant a job you will never return to or a future husband that you both have jumped through hoops to get a visa so that you can marry. Just expressing an opinion.

Does this mean - in theory - the embassy hopes (aims) to wrap us the process by the end of the NOA2 expiry. Therefore the date is almost a marker for the latest you could (if successful, get the visa).

Yes for the most embassy's that's true, but your middle east contry's and places like Nigeria and Morocco continue to have AP waits that can stretch to 6 or more months.

Thank you @Greenbaum for that document, I found it incredibly helpful!

I recieved my case number from NVC Dec 16th. My fiance is from South Africa (Johannesburg), how can we find out if we can book the interview and medical before they receive the packet? You mentioned some countries allow it, but I can't see anything on the embassy's website!

The best thing you can do is head on over to this thread and make yourself comfortable and knowledgeable from others who are processing from SA. Link is here.

Here is the P3 letter for South Africa https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eFx68_qjxcdedQnvDkdB5A0oKTew17VW/view?usp=sharing

Some additional information to be aware of:

Best thing for you all to do is get your police certificates BUT they cannot be older than 6 months.  If you were 16 and older and lived in another country besides S.A., then you will need a police certificate from there as well, so be prepared.

Start gathering documents, originals of birth certificates, divorce decree's, pictures and other evidence of your relationship that was not included in your original package (since it will take some time, they still want to see you are still an active couple).  Any passport photos cannot be older than 6 months old.

When you get your NOA2, give it about 10 days before you call NVC and asking status of your case.  You can always call USCIS for your status, but they are not the friendliest and I wouldn't even but them until at least 90 days minimum, I highly doubt they have caught up with the backlog, especially with all the immigration and DACA stuff going on.  The NVC is much friendlier, when you get there and will help you with no problem with any update you are asking.  But normally when you get your NOA2, like I said give it at least 10 days before you call them.  They didn't get our package for at least 14 days.

After you get your NOA2 and your package goes to NVC, it goes pretty quick, so use this time wisely to gather all your documents.  The petitioner needs to provide pay stubs (3 months), I-134 Aff. of Support, Employment verification letter, VA eligibility letter, if applicable, to show as part of income and last 3 years of tax records.

Then once NVC processes your package, a medical appointment can be made, you only have 2 options, one in Joburg and one in Cape Town.  My fiancé went to Joburg.   It's a 2 day process, but spread between 3 days.  You go one day for bloodwork and x-rays and the next for shots and discussion with the dr., so plan on that.

Your finance, not the petitioner, will need to fill out the Visa app online, DS-160 and pay the fee.

Make sure you set up your online account correctly and schedule the interview. They only do K1 visa interviews there at the consulate the last 2 weeks of the month and only on Tues and Thursdays.  So plan wisely.

Hi there! I finally received my NOA2 on December 5th and have some questions so I decided to join after lurking for half a year haha

- I still haven't received my NVC case number. I sent them an email a few days ago but they haven't responded and they don't pick up the phone either. Should I just keep waiting?

- I'm extremely confused about the I-134. My fiance doesn't make enough money to meet the income requirement but his stepdad is willing to co-sponsor us. Does my fiance still have to fill out an I-134 and if so, does he need 'supporting documentation' aka evidence of his income? He works at a food place so his income is mainly based on tips that can vary a lot, how do I include these in the I-134?

Both your fiance and his father need to complete the following for the interview.

EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT: You must submit any evidence which will show that you and members of your family who will accompany you are not likely to become public charges while in the United States. Visa petitioner (US Citizen) will have to complete form 1-134. If the petitioner does not qualify as a sponsor, a Joint-Sponsor should ALSO be presented (any US Citizen living in the US or Legal Permanent Resident), who will also have to complete form 1-134. Both, the Sponsor (Petitioner) as well as the Joint-Sponsor, will have to present last year's income tax return transcripts. W2 form and proof of current and sustainable income (e.g letter of employment on letterhead including salary and start date, most recent salary receipts, bank accounts, value of properties, etc.). You may download the 1-134 affidavit at: https://www.uscis.gov/i-134 Get the IRS transcript in place of the actual 1040 here: https://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript Use this link to determine the income levels needed https://www.uscis.gov/i-864p.

We need a little housekeeping from you if you will. Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile. When we look at the left column and can't determine your timeline OR your Embassy it's hard for us to give you a factual answer. Our answers will sometimes be tailored to a specific Embassy hence the reason for you to complete your profile. If you look at the profile of others here, they have a flag for their country, so it makes it easy for us to reply as we can quickly determine their Embassy. The country that should be used is the country where the interview will take place.

So, if you could help yourself out and complete your profile that sure would help us out when we want to reply to your question with factual information.

Go to the top right of this page select your name (it's on the upper right-hand corner)>my profile>[below your picture on the right column] edit my profile. Scroll to the bottom and fill in "Immigration Info". There now we can better serve you.

Once you finish that then return and you will see a flag in your profile. Select it and see what wonderful information will open up for you.

Thanks

Thank you @Greenbaum

I have my fiance's 2018 W2 right here, would it be recommended to wait for the 2019 one as I'll have my interview in 2020 (I don't really know when people usually receive that in the US, my knowledge on financial stuff is very limited) or would this be okay?

Would I still need a copy of his employment contract or would the W2 be enough as he's not the 'main' sponsor? I have no idea now strict they are at the interview when it comes to showing evidence.

Also, I have no idea how to fill out the annual income question on the I-134 as he gets paid weekly and doesn't work a set amount of hours a week (sometimes he works 4 hours a day, sometimes 7, sometimes he works 5 days a week and sometimes 6), gets paid a different amount per hour when driving and when working at the store (he's a driver at a pizza place) and mainly lives off of tips. Would there be a way to find this out? Is there any information on yearly income on the W2 or is there a different document for that?

I'm sorry I'm asking so many questions, I'm extremely stressed and paranoid and have absolutely no one in my home country to help me 😅

I updated my profile, I hope this is enough information!
