Holy cow...about 10 of the ones I was watching just changed to RFE.. Including mine. I was hoping for an approval rather than another huge delay. How long does it typically take to receive it?

Holy Cow Batman!! There is not going to be a huge delay as most experience 2-3-week approvals after you have replied. Do only what the RFE requires. Don't add a bunch of unnecessary stuff. You are receiving a RFE as your case has been approved in "pencil" but needs a little more "housekeeping". Once the adjudicator receives your reply and if there is nothing amiss in that information you will go on to an approval.

From the moment it updated in the case tracker it took 4 days to receive the letter. I got the rfe status on a Monday and Friday I got the letter.

It would be overkill if I sent in some more proof of ongoing relationship? Me and my fiancé have seen each other again since I applied and I would like them to see it lol

I saw a lot of RFE in December 20 as well... but so much more movement finally. Don’t worry much, you’ll have the approval very soon. I wish you good luck! You got this!

Why do when do will do? Your approved, you just need to send them what they want.

I've looked, but don't see a guide on VJ to "How to appropriately respond" to an RFE.

You're not finding anything because many RFE's are not for the same reason. All the instructions you need are outlined in the RFE letter you'll receive shortly. Read and reply.

So in the instance they ask for certified court documents, I simply get those and mail back? 

 

I don't need a cover letter/TOC or an explanation of what I am sending?

Here is my answer. I believe this will answer your questions and some you haven't asked.

 

Technically speaking, an RFE is a written request for more information and documentation that USCIS mails out if they believe that they don’t yet have enough evidence to approve or deny a given application. An RFE normally is a minor item and should not be looked at like it's a denial but an opportunity for you to complete your application. USCIS would not send out an RFE if they were going to deny your application. It's just a step that they must take and once they have your information and it meets their approval then you should be seeing your NOA2.

 

There are many varying degrees of RFE's. Some as simple as not "ticking" off a question. Others forgot the fiancé(e) letter and then others who met on a website and now need to prove that it wasn't a marriage arrangement website.

 

Once you get your RFE, read over very carefully as you only have one chance to reply accurately without causing undue harm. Once you know FROM THE RFE what it is set out to correct and to include "everything" they are asking for. Then reread the RFE to ensure you are compliant. Make copies of everything for your record and send back using their instructions which are contained within the RFE. If the RFE requires a signature, PLEASE don't forget this. Include the original RFE letter along with a cover letter explaining what you are including in your reply. Like a checklist format. Once received at USCIS your case will begin adjudication where the agent had left off. No one can tell you how long it will take so be patient.
