Personally:

On BF, I'll visit my favorite resale shop, which is offering 50% to 75% off all clothing, to see what's there.

I plan to drive 12,396 miles to the nearest remaining Sears to return a couple of items for store credit to use same-day on whatever, either work gloves or clothes for Mini-Bone.

I might (or might not) visit Office Depot to buy some Bounty paper towels on sale.

No specific plans for CM unless shoplet.com has some large percentage-off sale on consumable stuff that we use around the house.

Done with Christmas shopping, hate Black Friday, and might look for Cyber Monday deals if I'm bored this weekend.

For years, I have always taken Black Friday off so I don't have to leave the house. We started doing the 10 year green card renewal last month, and the biometric's appointment got scheduled for Black Friday, first thing in the morning in downtown Denver. Sometimes you can't win.

At least you didn't have to take vacation time during a regularly planned workday.

Go out super-early, like at 5 a.m. or whenever, to look at sales or at the mindless hordes participating in them.

Do biometrics, then drink coffee somewhere or at home, then relax.

We were very fortunate that Mrs. T-B.'s biometrics place was just 7 easy miles from our house.

That's my worry. Once we are out and surrounded by crowds, I am surely going to get roped into participating. Then I just know it's going to turn into an all day thing.

Then you also know that Resistance Is Futile and that the only appropriate response is, "Yes, Dear."

Perhaps claim delayed-onset tryptophan torpor from the turkey and demand a nap at home.

What would she look at in terms of stores with sales?

No estate sales within range, sadly.

Anywhere with expensive shoes, coats, or household items. I just need to make sure my phone is charged so I have something to do.

I dont plan to set foot near a retail establishment until after Christmas.

This time of the year screws up my routines

Country: Vietnam
Timeline
Posted

We don't partake of black Friday usually as it is too much a hassle but we will go out maybe Monday to a few places when most are working and get a few things for a few people. We gather stuff for a few weeks every month and send a box to my wifes family in Vietnam like vitamins and lotions and stuff like that. For Xmas though we will send gifts too like smell good things perfumes and such. and also send about 500$ that will pay for Xmas party and gifts to everyone. They will use it and probably a hundred or so people will attend and eat and drink and the mother will pass out red envelopes in our name and it will last about 2 days as family from far away will attend. I will be forced to sit with wife for awhile while we get on video call and so many drunks thank us and the kids sing and such to us. Also we collect money for a charity very dear to my wife of an orphanage and last year it amounted to about 5,000$ and this year a tad more. This orphanage is a hard core of ones that can't be adopted as they are severely handicapped in various ways. They need money just to feed them and some clothing and they cry when our money comes in so much that I tend to tear up as their gratitude is genuine. My wife collects it from the girls that work at her shop and she now a couple of other shops that help out. Even her family here have helped out now and the orphanage has enough money to last most of the year in food at least. I figure we do well here and have all we need and more so why not?

Canadians aren't remotely as cut-throat about black friday but do plenty of deals on it.

For PC points, they planned the annual redemption event around black friday. This one is where you spend 250,000 points and get 400,000 points worth of stuff, so basically, spend $400 and use $250 in points. The language they use is pretty confusing though, at least, for me it is.

1M1dk9v.jpg

While Shoppers Drug Mart prices are somewhat inflated, this amount off is a pretty big deal.

We spiked our points yesterday, have around 500,000 points, earning like $150 worth of points just from me buying Dior and JPG colognes ($300 total).

It's one thing to spend money, it's another to have it working for you.

How true.

Might as well throw this in:

For having transferred a prescription earlier, our nearby supermarket gave us a 25%-off coupon.

I used it today (Thanksgiving morn) to buy our pre-cooked turkey/fixin's and a full grocery cart of stuff.

The coupon alone was worth $60, precisely the cost of the turkey dinner.

Store loyalty discounts yielded another $48 in savings.

Paper coupons yielded another $5.

Net total spent = $188 after total savings of $113, or 39%.

The $188 is a record non-Costco grocery total for me, but I'm highly satisfied with the rest of it.

Probably won't go ape with further BF/CM shopping unless another such opportunity avails itself.
