Oath Ceremony De-Scheduled?

Happy Thanksgiving!

My naturalization application was approved after my interview on November 1. I received my oath ceremony appointment letter yesterday with the date, time and place of the ceremony. And today, when I checked my status online, it say they are DE-SCHEDULING my appointment due to unforeseen circumstances. Is this normal? Should I be worried? Please help if you have/ had the same experience. Thank you!

No I did not. It’s weird cause I got my oath appointment letter Wednesday afternoon. The next day Thursday, I received another letter saying my oath was de scheduled. I don’t know what’s the reason why they’re descheduling my oath. I am going to try calling USCIS on monday and hopefully get an answer about this.

thanks for bringing this up.

Something similar happened in our case. Wife requested an path date in Jan due to travel.  In my interview (next day) IO kindly wrote down my similar request saying “no problem” and asked for and noted her A# (GC#) down to let scheduling folks know to set same date for us. Her oath was first scheduled But no info or document on USCIS site. Mine was scheduled a few days later and while still no document on site, paper copy arrived for 9 Jan. wife received a paper letter saying her 12 Dec oath date was  “descheduled due to unforeseen circumstances” .  Both our Statuses show “approved” and “oath ceremony scheduled” but no other detail or document on site.

wonder if there’s anything we need to (or could) do to get clarity.

It can happen, unfortunately.

Sometimes oath ceremonies are descheduled for the following reasons:

-if it's a judicial ceremony, and the presiding judge is no longer available to be present on that day.

-if the initial date was mistakenly entered on the letter (ie. there is no actual ceremony on that date for that location--clerical error)

-if it's a holiday or day of observance, or day that location is normally closed (not sure what the actual date of your initial ceremony was supposed to be on).

I'm guessing that because the deschedule letter was sent out only 1 day after the original letter, that it was likely one of the above reasons and USCIS caught their own mistake quickly.  On the bright side---at least they informed you right away, instead of you showing up and not being able to participate.

What was the actual date given on the original oath letter?
