I came to the US on a K1 visa. I married within the 90days, adjusted my status, have my SSN, employment authorization, permission to travel/advanced parole, green card, etc. That was over a year ago.

I recently took my first trip out of the US,  back home to Canada .  When I was passing through TSA, the officer told me that I should have booked my ticket using my new last name (married name) on my green card *NOT* the name appearing on my Canadian passport (my maiden name). He said it was a little confusing and I might have to go through secondary screening on my return.

I told him I did have my marriage certificate just incase.

I'm a little confused and am wondering if he was correct.

Luckily, I purchased a one way ticket to Canada since I wasn't certain on when I would be returning (I do know which month, just not sure on the day of the month)

Should I book my return ticket to the States using my Canadian passport (maiden name) or Green card (new married name)?

Any advice would be appreciated

There are two issues.  The airline letting you fly and CBP letting you back into the US.

The airlines want IDs to match the named flyer.  Use the name in your passport.

CBP will let you in with AP, your passport, and a copy of your marriage certificate.

TSA is nothing more than glorified mall cops.  You got an uninformed TSA agent.

Airline employee here...

The name on your flight ticket must match your passport. We don’t care what’s on your green card, library card, Costco card, SSN card.

TSA don’t work for the airline and don’t have any say over who is admitted into the country. Their only focus is passenger and flight security.
