I came to the U.S from Canada last December through marriage.  About a month after I started working I recieved a message that a U.S branch of a company I worked for in Canada a few years ago was looking for a reliable sheetmetal worker. I was recommend by former coworkers. My question is when things are slow in the U.S and busy in Canada can I legally work in Canada now my green card has been approved?

Will you move back to Canada for the job?  Will you be commuting?

No I travel for work now. Our home is in Virginia but I currently work in different areas. The company does industrial maintenance generally automotive. I will work 3 weeks then home a week. I'm just inquiring as to weather doing short stints back in Canada between jobs down here would be a problem?

Not a problem.  Remember to report the income on your US tax return.  You'll have to file a Canadian tax return as well.  Have proof that you are maintaining your US residency.

Thanks it would probably only be 6 maybe 8 weeks per year if anything. And I'm planning to call revenue Canada about filling my Canadian tax return with U.S residency and income.

They pay me in USD just like all thier US workers.

So besides for the physical location are they paying US taxes etc? Trying to figure out if you need to file a Canadian return.  If they give you a t4 then yes,  if its a w2 then probably not.
