Requesting Birth Certificate

Hi,

I was born in Oman (was an Indian Citizen then) and am having a tough time contacting the Embassy of India in Muscat, Oman. My emails keep getting returned to me as a failed delivery attempt and am wondering if anyone knows of another way to request my birth certificate. I have also written to two consular agents in Oman so hopefully something comes of that...

Gonna see if the two agents I emailed contact me this week and if I don't hear anything, then I'm gonna call 'em

Sigh.. I wish I could just order a Birth Certificate like everywhere else online!

Looks like you have a unique problem! Good luck though, hope you can get through!

I didn't know birth certificates were given through Consulates? Are you sure you can't just contact the Registrar of Births in the place you were born in? I thought that births were just registered and issued by the office in the city you were born in, and then citizenship (if different from the country of birth) is determined according to different paperwork we do ourselves.

I don't know about these things so please forgive me if you already know this is not possible.

Well, Oman's one of those special countries that doesn't give you citizenship just because you were born there.. SOOOOO, my birthcertificate was issued from the Indian Embassy in Oman..

I find the whole thing confusing too... but hopefully I'll hear from one of those agents soon.........

since this is so unique, i thought i'd update the thread for other vj'ers in case they ran into the same thing

response:you need to first send the scanned copy to the ROP/BC and ask for a

new duplicate certificate.then send it to Min of Ext affairs of oman and

get it attested with a 5rials stamp then spend 4rials and get it attested

by the indian embassy in MCT.then it will become a valid document.

i too have a doubt regds birth cert..we usually use our 10th standard (high school ?) marks list as proof of DOB..

but since we also need birth cert at the consulate, and this DOB is in native language, lucky that my wife got it translated into english long back

now, my problem is she doesnt have that original DOB written in tha native language, does she need this too at the intrv time? or just the translated cert is fine ?

What happened to the original birth certificate? I think it is important to have that, because it has all the original signatures and office stamps...

My in-laws didn't register my husband's name and so he doesn't have a birth certificate. But, we got a affidavit on a stamp paper made by my in-laws and got it notarized by the first class magistrate of the city they live in. And he also got a certificate from the municipal corporation of the city he was born that his name was not registered at the time of birth and that they acknolwede the affidavit. I think, this should be ok, right. In packet 4, they said if u don't have birth certificate, you can do the affidavit and get a certificate from registrar of births.

Yes Adhi you should be fine, that is what I did too.
