2019 K1 Brazil RDJ Medical Timing Advice Needed

Hi Everyone,

I've read everything I can, but it seems that the timeline for the K-1 medical lab work and physician consultation in relation to the interview date is unclear (at least to me).  So, given that we need to spend the minimum amount of time in Rio due to work constraints (limited vacation days), can anyone help with the minimum days needed for the medical work?  For example, the interview date is on Tuesday (for K1s).  And I've read that the longest lead time for lab work is the urine test (doctor's instructions says 2 business days).

1)  Could we schedule the lab work (specifically the urine) for Thursday and the actual medical consultation for Monday (thus 2 business days)?  Or does the urine need to be backed up to Wednesday?

2)  Any problems with scheduling the medical consultation the day before the interview, i.e., on Monday?

Any advice on specific number of days (at minimum) would be much appreciated.  We have to fly into Rio, so we have to keep the medical timeline to a bare minimum.

Thanks,

--Mark and Sandra

Mark here again.  Just to make this more complicated, the email from the consulate-designated physician in Rio says all lab exams need to be completed 2 business days prior to the physician exam.  But the attachments with that same email say 4 business days.  AND the physicians office won't accept phone calls -- only emails.  And they keep responding with the same conflicting  boiler plate email and attachments.

Anybody know the answer to this?  Minimum number of business days to complete lab work before physician exam?

When I went through the K1 visa process last year, my doctor in SP instructed to ONLY complete the lab exams AFTER the physician exam. I honestly don't know if the doctor on Rio does things differently but the order of things (unless otherwise stated by the physicians themselves) should be: physical exam > lab tests> doctor in Rio sends results to Embassy> you attend the interview.

So if your interview is on Tuesday, you could schedule the appointment for Thursday the week before, have the lab tests done on the same day and hope for the best (results delivered in 2 business days) or be on the safe side and schedule your appointment for Tuesday before the interview (which would give you 4 business days, which seems to be the standard deadline official channels will give you).

Mark here.  Actually the Rio doctor is VERY specific about completing  the lab analysis (blood, urine, X-ray) BEFORE the medical exam.  He won't complete the exam unless he has the results.  Thus the problem with the number of days for the urine analysis.  Right now we're trying this schedule:  lab analysis on Thursday, (week before), finger prints and medical exam on Monday, and interview on Tuesday.  Very tight schedule.   We would do the lab analysis earlier, but we're crossing the New Year's holiday (Tuesday is New Year's Eve, Wednesday is New Year's Day), so nothing is open.

Mark here.  Ok, we have the answer to this question for the doctor in Rio.  Lab exams must be scheduled a minimum of 2 business days (not 4) in advance of the actual consultation with the physician in order for the result to be available to the doctor (which is required).  We scheduled the physician exam and then received (from the doctor's office) the order for the lab exams which clearly states that results require 2 business day prior to physician consultation.  See pasted section of order below:

Exames laboratoriais

Solicito:

Locais: LABORATÓRIO RICHET - Rua Adalberto Ferreira 18, Loja A, Leblon.

Tel: 21 3184-3000.

Can you try calling the doctor in Rio? Some doctors only have office hours in the mornings or only in the afternoons... so you might want to double check by calling. Hope you get through!
