Congratulations!! I see you said "your I-751 application stated it was mandatory for your husband to come with you" , did you have 2 interview notices (n400 and i751)? , I'm just trying to figure out where it said it was mandatory.

Kevin,

Thank you!

Yes, my I-751 interview notice stated my husband should accompany me. The N-400 interview notice did not state that. So yes, technically I had two interviews in one,  that is why I numbered them 1.1 and 1.2.
They started off with the I-751 of course since my N-400 was based on 3year rule with ongoing marriage.

We filed a I-751 in June of 0219 and a N0400 in July of 2020.  An interview was scheduled for N-400 on April 8 which we postponed.   On April 9 we received notice that the USCIS had approved the I-751 without an interview.  The notice however stated, "Our records also indicate that we have approved your Form N-400."  "Because we also approved your N-400, you will not receive a new"  green card.  However, a week later a notice of interview for N-400 arrived for May 18.  We called in to see what the deal was and are waiting for a tier 3 callback.  Anyone ever heard of a situation like this?

Hi seablock, my letter said the exact same thing. However, the letter was issued one day after I had had my N400 interview.  I assume they would not approve your N400 without an interview.

Maybe it's just a standard (if confusing) template that they send to everyone who has their I-751 approved and also has an N400 somewhere in the system?

Just for reference, it was nearly five months between receiving that letter, and actually receiving my oath ceremony letter. I hope you will have some info sooner than that.

I have a relative who is a  judge who swears in citizens on a regular basis.  He wants to swear in my wife.  I wonder if this would speed up the possible "oath ceremony" or if he puts in a request that the ceremony might end up being delayed.  Anyone having experienced this?

Hi everyone,

I figured I'd give my last update in case someone comes here needing more info, specially for the San Diego Office.
I sent I-751 on June 2019 and did biometrics in Nov 2019. In July 2020 I sent my N-400 application and didn't get any news until Dec 14th that my biometrics were reused.

Mid april 2021 I got a notification that my naturalization interview was scheduled for May 17,2021, no news for the I-751 at all. I went yesterday and took my husband with me just in case. They didn't let him in which discouraged me but when I met the officer he said he had reviewed both applications and that technically he should bring my husband in but since we have two kids together he wouldn't. He did ask questions about our life together and marriage, and also did the tests for N-400. He said he was going to approve me and congratulations I was a US citizen. He told me to go to a different floor for the ceremony. I got there and was only another person and myself and they already had my Naturalization Certificate. We did the oath of allegiance and everyone clapped. LOL. It was awesome, I wasn't expecting the ceremony to be the same day.

I realize I got really lucky and I'm so relieved this is all over.

Good luck to everyone still waiting.

Congrats...Our timeline is similar however we got notice that the I-751 was approved in April and got a notice for a citizenship appointment the next day.  However, the I-751 approval noted that the N-400 had been approved.  On May 18, I was able to talk my way into my wife's citizenship interview (I think the officer was under the impression that it was also an I-751 interview) and she passed the English exam and was approved.  However, the officer could not figure out what was going on with the I-751 approval (approved with no interview and an error regarding the N-400).  No updates on the USCIS account.  So (as usual) hurry up and wait mode.

Good Morning Everyone,

Great to finally be back on the forums - I had a question because it seems the trend is that you file for the I-751 90 days before your 2nd year and then the N400 90 days before your 3rd year GC anniversary.

However, when I was at my AOS Interview with my husband the IO advised when it was time to file for the I-751 to also file my application for the N400 which is now confusing me. I don't want to file for the N400 if it's just going to be returned.

What should I do? Should I contact my local office and confirm the information?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

There may have been a miscommunication there. What you said first is correct - you may file the I-751 90 days before your 2nd year anniversary as a permanent resident and then the N400 90 days before your 3rd year GC anniversary.

Has anyone had their Citizenship interview recently?  I heard from some people that the Civics test was done on a tablet???  Usually, questions are asked orally so I'm kind of shocked that would occur.  So I just wanted to confirm if anyone that recently took the Civics test during the interview got a tablet test.  Thank you.

My wife's N-400 is pending (post interview) but her I-751 was approved. No green card was sent and we were told by the tier 2 agent said that the green card would not be sent out while the N-400 was pending.  My understanding is that the green card is not sent out if the N-400 was approved.  Can they refuse to send out the green card while the N-400 is pending?  This puts the applicant in a limbo with no green card and no U.S. passport.   We already have an adit stamp but want the green card (which we paid for) for ease of travel and to obtain employment without problems.

My wife's I-751 and N-400 combo interview is coming up in July.  Has anyone that just had their combo interview know which documents were asked during the I-751 interview and then which documents were asked during the N-400 interview?  Just trying to get an idea of what was asked.

Thank you.

Happy Sunday! I got my interview notification for my N00, I’ve a pending I -751 which is ready to be scheduled for last two years. And no status changed, but last year  when I contacted uscis for I 751 through my congressmen and in reply uscis said the both application would be processed at same time

Anybody share their experiences on the similar issues would be appreciated

Hi all,

Had a combo interview N400 and I751 last week in New York City. I got the invite for the N400, no information on the I751 nor any status change. Brought my spouse just in case (everyone in the building seems to be aware of the combo interview situation, didn't ask for any information etc.), and all the case files for both cases that I had. Officer called me in without my wife for the N400, I just mentioned casually that I had a I751 pending, but she said I was here for N400.

N400 interview was easy peasy, took 10-15 min all together, tests included and a name change. Then she said that as my spouse was there, she would accomodate me and do the I751 interview. My wife was called in and had to answer questions. We were terribly prepared (as our marriage is SUPER real, we have a kid etc we didn't think too much of it), I couldn't remember the hospital our daughter was born at, my wife couldn't remember our last travel data, but we figured it out. Very stressful.

The only problem: we filed taxes separately (advice of our accountant) for 1 year and she needed to see the tax filing of my wife which I didn't include. She was kind enough to leave our case open for the rest of the day, gave me a RFE and told me to upload it the same day.

I751 case was approved 2 days later, and I got the notice yesterday saying they 'also approved my N400 so they will not send a new green card (just like the one above here). The N400 case is still on status 'actively being reviewed, no action to be taken by me.' We're hoping they will approve this soon and Oath will be scheduled soon, as we would love to go to see my family this summer in Belgium! But I am aware it might take a while 😕

It definitely feels like we're close to the end, so that's a relief. I also have to say that in general (aside from the looong wait times), the service of USCIS has been pretty great. I feel like they have to work on difficult cases in difficult circumstances, in a pandemic and with changing policies, and are doing the best they can. I feel for all the people whose case has been sidetracked, lost etc. though. We feel very lucky!

Update: no news for the past (almost) 2 months so I did an inquiry through the portal - now I received a G-56 Call in Notice to come in and 'review my application'. Given that my I-751 is approved, not sure what this could be about. I've read about a second interview to dive deeper in your relationship, but the I-751 is approved? Might this be about the tax filing? Any ideas? At least the appointment is coming soon, so hopefully more news later!

When I went for my N-400 interview, they didn't have my I-751 file, so couldn't approve the N-400 at that time.

Now nearly one and a half years later, I'm still waiting on a decision!

Hopefully you can get both processed at the same time, and don't end up in my situation.
