Hello, everyone. I had my citizenship interview and test in Newark, NJ last Tuesday and passed! My appointment was at 12:45 pm, so I was uncertain if I could take the oath same-day. Luckily, my interview ended at 2pm and the oath ceremony took place from 3-3:30pm. I had a name change but received my Naturalization Certificate during the oath ceremony. Grateful to have finally completed the journey!

I'd like to share a few things I encountered a long the way:

My original N-400 appointment was set for April 2020, but was cancelled due to the coronavirus. Estimated Completion date was September 2020.

– In July, I received a text notification regarding an update in my case. I logged into my online account to see that an I-751 interview had been scheduled for August 2020. A few days later, I received the notice in the mail.

– Shortly after the I-751 interview, the Estimated Completion date disappeared from my online account.

– Mid-September, I received the N-400 notice in the mail, but never received a text alert. My case status online never updated either, nor did the Estimated Completion date return. The interview notice never appeared in the Documents section of the online account either.

– I checked my online account days after I took the oath and it says, "We have scheduled your naturalization ceremony" 😮 The Estimated Completion date is back, indicating January 2021. All this AFTER I took the oath, received my Naturalization Certificate and basically completed the process.

All to say: Check your mail diligently, and the online system isn't always accurate!

Good luck, everyone! Thank you for all your help through the years.

You filed your N400 in Nov 2019 and already got your interview?! Which office did you go to, Newark?! I filed in October of 2019 and I still have not received any notice what-so-ever!?

Hi! Yes, Newark is the field office I was assigned to.

I filed in November 2019 with a pending I-175, and received notice for an N-400 interview for April (cancelled due to the pandemic). The rest took place as I described in my post.

I hope you receive a notice soon! Seems like they're trying to work through the backlog, as there were maybe 20+ of us who were sworn in during the 3pm Oath Ceremony (I believe the Newark office conducts a couple of ceremonies throughout the day).

I'm doing a combo.

My USCIS account now says "Estimated case completion time: September 2021 (10 months)"

See below:

N-400 Application for Naturalization
Estimated case completion time: September 2021 (10 months)
Submitted: on September ***, 2020

I wonder USCIS's mathematics  was taught by a Physical Education teacher? Just joking.

It's obviously 12 months. Or is my math bad?

The count is from the current month not from the month you submitted you application. Current month is November 2020- September 2021 is 10months. Estimated completion time is different from processing time.

Hey guys, i’m just curious, how many people actually got their i-751 approval, while waiting for N400? For instance, my 18 month extension letter for expired 2 year conditional green card, will expire in april 2021. Thanks to fellow members here on the forum, i find out that i should make so-called “emergency appointment” with uscis, one week prior to 18 month letter expiration date, to get my passport stamped with additional 1 year “green card” stamp.

So what a chances to get 10 year GC before April?

Hi All,

My N400 interview is scheduled for Dec 21. My I751 has been pending since July 2019 and is still at the Potomac center. I was hoping that it will be transferred to the local field office so it could be a combo interview. However, it has not been transferred as of now. I was thinking about calling USCIS and asking them about the i751 and whether it will be transferred to the local field office, but I'm worried that if I call then they might reschedule my N400 interview to a later date because my i751 is pending.

Has anyone called to ask about i751 being transferred to the local office or about combo interview? If so, what did you ask the agent on the phone?

Sorry guys i am very late but I forgot to post my experience here on this section of my “combo interview”. This was on 11/06/2020.

Here is the post...:goofy:

I AM A US CITIZEN!!!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

My experience was amazing! Very friendly and professional officer 👮🏻‍♂️

I got same day oath ceremony!  Decided not to change my name because I would have had to wait 3 weeks and I didn’t wanna wait. I’ll change my name in the near future in court.

Interview was easy, combo interview I-751/N400. Plexiglass was in between me and the officer. Was put under oath then I was asked basic info and my I-751 was approved. Then we went on to the N-400 and was asked

“Who is your US Senator?”

”Who makes Federal Laws?”

”Who wrote the Declaration Of Independence?”

”How many US Senator?”

”What ocean is on the west coast of the US?”

”Name one war that happened in the 1800?”

I got all correct and we moved on to the reading and writing and I used a IPad to read and write.

Reading was

”What do we pay to the US Government?”

Writing was

“We pay taxes.”

we went through the yes and no questions like

”Have you ever claimed to be a US Citizen?”

”Have you voted or registered in a election?”

”Have you ever worked Illegally?”
“Have you ever claimed to be a US Citizen in writing Or any other way (like on a I-9 form or government forms?)”

“Have you ever not filed taxes?”

”Have you ever killed someone?”

After going through the yes and no question

we went through the rest of the application and that was it I signed a paper to show all my info was correct and then he approved me. He congratulated me and escorted me to a room where the oath ceremony would be taking place.
I waited about 1 hour for the oath ceremony that was being done in the USCIS Office. Social distanced and mask wore at all times. There were 6 other people who were there waiting to be naturalized. We then did the oath of allegiance and that was it! I became a US Citizen. They gave me my certificate and made sure everything was correct on it and that’s it!

Now time to apply for US Passport and update SSN and apply for a new Driver license. Lol

I’m so excited!!!! Good luck everyone with your journey to US Citizenship! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Had my combo interview and now I'm in line for oath and the i-751 status says my card has been mailed. Hopefully I'll only have it for a few weeks. No idea how long it takes for oath at my local office.

Where can I see that estimated completion time? Is that on the USCIS website or VJ?

Did anyone try calling USCIS to confirm whether their interview will be combo or not?

My N400 interview is end of the month and I am thinking whether to call them to ask about combo?

You can definitely call. They may or may not confirm it. They might say both cases are in the local office so it's likely. USCIS called me 2 days before my interview to say it was a combo and to make sure I bring my spouse. I was planning to bring him anyway but it was nice to be sure.

Oh wow. I didn't know that USCIS also calls. I thought they usually just send a mail. My i751 as per the last update is still at the Potomac center. My only concern is that I don't want them to cancel or reschedule my interview just because my i751 is pending.
