Hello everyone!! Thank you so much for the help I’ve gotten so far in the process. Me and my fiancé are getting married next week, so I started looking into the all the forms needed for the AOS process. However I do have one question. At my POE (Austin) the officer took my entire yellow envelope, which included my medical plus my birth certificate and police records. He assured me they would be passed along, but do I need to submit additional copies with the AOS package or is it enough that they have them in the yellow envelope? Thank you so much in advance!

forgot to mention I arrived on a K1 visa (if that makes a difference)

You follow the form instructions.   Submit the evidence it requires

YMMV

Yes, you do need a copy of your original birth certificate. And the translation, if not in English.

(removed), that’s gonna be a process to get over here in time. Thanks for the replies. I didn’t really consider it much after the officer at POE assured me that I wouldn’t need it for the actual AOS process but then I saw it had to be submitted I figured I’d ask.

I brought my 3 copies to the K1 interview because I’m a dumbass and they took all of them 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ But I just ordered some new ones and I’m crossing my fingers I can have them scanned and sent to me in time, as long as I don’t need actual originals.

Aww, that bites.  I'm sure the scanned copies will be just fine.  I think of Norway as being an efficient and organized country, so it likely will not be delayed.

Yeah I’m just bummed out I didn’t think about this before now. And yes you’re right, I think it took about a week or two the last time I ordered one so it shouldn’t be too long, just a pain in the (removed) to stress about in addition to getting our certified marriage certificate back ASAP haha

Totally get it.  Ours took about one week, which seemed like too long!

You need original marriage certificate and birth certificate for lots of things.

So it would be a great idea to procure them, stop submitting originals, and submit copies.

You show originals, but provide copies.

There is no, zero step in any immigration proceedings that requires an officer to take an original document.

Haha I get that now. I ordered a few and I’ll have my mom scan them to me and then mail them over, that way I can submit copies but have the originals at hand here for any other things it might be needed for. thanks so much for all of your replies, and pardon my french lol
