Certificate of Naturalization

Hi visa journey members

I know it still too early for that, but I read that when a parent naturalizes American before his child turns 18 , that child automatically becomes American , and he can apply for US passport , but  in order to get a naturalization certificate he has to pay  $1170  , how come the child will be American automatically and pays all that amount of money for the certificate ?  Is it enough to obtain a US passport or should apply for the certificate?

Ok thanks you for the quick reply. So the certificate of naturalization is not essential to prove citizenship.

No the kid can get a passport without it

Ok, all you need is your certificate of naturalization along with the normal required documents when you apply for his/her passport.

You certificate is his/her evidence of having a US Citizen parent before turning 18. They will require his/her green card along with the documents which they will send back to USCIS after processing the passport.

Good Luck!
