Last week they added 5 days to my est time to next step and today they added anther 7 days. 😖

dunno how comes my previous coworkers were able to get theirs done in 3 months.

I'd say be thankful it's days and not months!

Downstate in NYC, people can wait 9-12 months for an interview. I waited 10 months.

My husband’s estimate went from December 2020 to January 2021 😔 But the next action went down to 9 months.

I messaged two people on here going through the same office. Both of their interviews are scheduled for about 5 months after applying. They said their estimate still claim it will take a year. So with that I am going to take the estimates with a grain of salt.

Let's remind ourselves how estimates are given. Each field office reports 2 numbers. The first number is the time by which 50 percent of the applications are processed (median time) and the second number is the time it takes to process 90 percent of the applications. The estimate is then 90 percent of the first number plus ten percent of the second number. For example: If the first number is 6 months and the second number is 10 months, then estimate=0.9*6+0.1*10=6.4 months. Indeed, these estimates are to be taken with a grain of salt.

0.9*5.5+0.1*20.5=7 months is the estimate for Miami using the regular formula. But since the second number is so large, I think they weigh it more, so it counts for 50 percent instead of 10 percent. 20.5*0.5+5.5*0.5= 13 months would be the estimated wait time from applying to taking the oath. Miami used to be 8-31, so 5.5-20.5 is a true progress.

I think you are one of a small group of people that understands the statistical approach USCIS takes to analyze the processing times of the various USCIS field offices.  With the Miami field office one has to take into consideration that the processing time will continue to improve because they are transferring old applications (backlog) to other field offices in order to improve the processing time of new applicants.  Note the radical drop in the first and second number over the past 6 months.  This means they are processing the new applications at a fast rate (52% in the first 5.5 months and some of the backlog applications that they are still processing skew the second number to the high end of 20.5 months, albeit still faster than the 3 years of not that long ago. I think the majority (75%) of the new Miami applicants are going to be pleasantly surprised to see their application completed within the first 8 months.

By the way, you probably already noted that Jacksonville, where you applied, has gotten a little worse in processing time.  It has changed from 4.5 to 9 months to 5 to 9 months.  The reason most likely is due to the transferring of cases from Miami to Tampa, Jacksonville, Hialeah, etc.

Thank you for opening this discussion.

I've never understood the logic behind prioritizing newer cases while "working on" reducing the backlogged cases.

There should be more national standardization. It's a federal system so it's very unfair that people in some field offices - all other factors being equal - becomes citizens in <6 months while for others it takes >12 months. It would seem logical and standard to devote more resources to the offices that have more cases and fewer resources to the offices that don't have many cases. That would help even things out.

Buffalo field office update

Monday, my wifes interview took place. Took about 20 minutes at most. (My own is scheduled for tomorrow)

My atty, spoke to the staff on Monday and they said, 'since I was already there, I could do my interview instead of coming back, 3 days later. Luckily I was fully prepared and had all my docs and paperwork.

However, at the last minute (it was end of the day) they changed their minds, which was frustrating.

So, I am 'supposed' to go tomorrow but NOW...there is a flipping winter storm and the office might be closed..

I know my case had been a lot faster than most of yours, but it is ever so frustrating to have the appointment for tomorrow but changed due to snow.....

It's very frustrating having to contact USCIS about case progress. They obviously have more inside details on our cases but persist to repeat like mindless robots about the processing times that I can already see on the website.

Those scripted responses are getting sooooo old now. 🙄
