Esalaam/Salut/Hello

I have a quick question for everyone here. Well knowing how DZ works (you bride people or know someone) that is only way to get things done. With my husband sick, our cashflow is down to almost zero...so we simply cannot bride anymore people. They are now requesting my chahada (conversion) papers, which I never had drawn up. tried to the papers done in DZ wbut of course that would take more months and more brides...so I thought I would jump back to the States, go my local masjid and get it. Well nooooooo.... I need to be a member of that majisd (registered) for least 3 yrs, have a male sponsor already member of the masjid and pay some $700 fee, which right now we donnot have.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me of any masjids around Michigan that do not require this...or maybe in Tunis or Maroc. I am willing to go there... snaps...all this is so frustrating...all this cos I am foreigner and they assume I am just loaded....ye right! Please if anyone can help me with this, I (we) would really appreciate it! Saha!

I never got anything either. That's weird that they need that for your citizenship. Does Algiers not allow nonmuslim citizens?

btw I think rahma maybe on your yahoo 360 friend list....

And I dont use that account anymore...it was hacked...so I really have no way to look it up... but I will try. but thanks Doodle.

Well since they asked and it was written on my marriage cert that I am Muslim, and I am foreigner (American now at that) all they ssee is $$$ so... regardly what they law says (nothing is writeen about Muslims or non-Muslims...it is democratic state)... but there they seem to make up their own laws... and everyone wants $$$ which right now we dont have. We gave enough bribes before... I was mad...but with my husband sick and the contruction we really cannot give not even a cent. =(

Henia,

I can't believe that they are asking for shahada papers to gain residency. I have a Moroccan residency card (for no functional reason, only for the amusement of my husband). I got it last year and it was relatively quick. I handed over my passport to the police and my husband got a few forms stamped. I too am a muslimah. This was never brought into play while applying for the card. Sounds to me like someone is just trying to give you a hard time.

Well they are NOT suppose to ask, but here you to go throu different people each time you visit the offices (red tape up the ###)... even thou we have clearly showed them the law they still continue to give us the run around. Totally stupid I know. They really do not need any chahada papers, it is all about us not being able to pay them off... to get my paperwork moved ot the next desk. So they are asking for all these stupid papers... and I even went to the court, begged the judge...but the more people you see, the more people except you to pay them off and...more obstacles you run into... And they also have this stupid rule about having all documents date 3months or less... or they are not valid. I have had to ask for a new BC already several times...and take blood tests every 3m #######...ok calm down !

Doodle: Filing in the US would take longer, plus I would still have to keep my visa current... partly why I wanted resideny NO MORE VISAS (more time wasted and money)...

Honestly I am shocked and appalled that they would ASK FOR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!! I got one cert from my local masjid.. and then another at Al Azhar.. both times they didnt ask for a fee... that is RIDICULOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I by the way... Need Shahada papers from a MUSLIM country... I guess they wouldnt take a cert form america seriously.. which is why after being Muslim for almost 2 years.. I had to "redo" it again

deemabrouk:Esalaams my sister... Yes I am very appalled myself, but Algerie is totally corrupt. It is democratic yet Muslim...so stupid all the way. One side you the Islamic morales (kinda) of certain religious people, then the people trying to copy the West (totally against anything religious)....only thing in common both sides WANT $$$$... which Islamically they should not ask for...and we orginally didnt pay them #### but after a time cracked and paid...but with our current situation paying is not a option.

Maybe if we can wing it...going to Egypt...could you tell me the process you went throu to get a chahada at Al Azhar and what you needed to bring/also the wait time. Actually if you or anyone could give more details as possible (here or in PM or my email)

And Happy (almost) Anniversary Deemabrouk!
