I'd agree with everyone else.  I had to sit around and do nothing for the first 9 or so months, and it drove me crazy.

On J visas.  Spouse won DV lottery while in US.  Did AOS from the US.

 

Boston field office, GC holder for 10 years.

Citizenship received in 2016, took ~5 months from application to passport.

Spouse received citizenship in 2019

Thanks for your help everyone! I'd reply to you all individually, but I see I missed a bunch of messages over night.

 

My fiancée and I have done some talking and research and like the sound of the CR-1 route. We had wanted to get to the States as quickly as possible because after spending the past 2 years broke and in grad school, we're antsy to settle down and start earning some real money, but on reflection the downtime on the K-1 route sounds like a lot to handle and an extra couple of months in New Zealand doesn't sound so bad. 

 

I have a couple of questions regarding the CR-1, but I'll post them in a new thread over in the CR-1 forums.
