Hi All,

My parents i130 was approved a few weeks ago.  I got notice last week that our cases are already on the way to NVC.

I can't recall when I did my police clearance when I came on a K1 as it's been so long ago.  I do recall that we were able to schedule our interview fairly close, but that could be because we were on a K1 and at that time we were able to do interviews in my city.  Now, the rules have changed and there's only one place in Canada that does these interviews and I believe we can no longer choose.

For medical, we cannot do the exam until our interview date has been selected but are we able to collect everything else?  Birth certificates, etc. we already have but what about police clearance?  Can we do this now, without getting the official notice from NVC?  I've searched online and we can pay for expedite service but if we don't want to, we just need to give them a few weeks to send it back to us.

Also, I read that we have 6 months from approval to move.  Just to be clear, that's 6 months from their interview approval, not the initial conditional approval, right? It's been a few years and I'm rusty!

Thank you

Yes, when the I-130 is approved is a good time to start collect those

Yes, you don't need anything from NVC. You can always get your own police clearance.

No, just do regular, you have time. You're about 6-10 weeks away from documentarily qualified to get an interview date.

It's 6 months from the date of the medicals to use the immigrant visa to enter the US. They can always come back to take care of stuff later.

not the initial conditional approval,

There is no such thing. The only approval is when you have the visa in hand. There is no other kind of approval.

Thank you so much!  You're right, the 'approval' I got was just the application to be approved to get to next steps, not actual approval.

We will start prepping everything and getting the clearance without needing to expedite.  It'll be good to do it now that we know it's on the way and not having to rush/stress about it in a few weeks.

See above link. It is similar, except there is no sending actual papers into the NVC anymore. You upload stuff now.
