Hi, I just had a question I was hoping someone might know the answer to. After your get your CR1 visa, how long is it until you can apply to remove the conditions to become a permanent resident? Is it 3 months short of two years from the date you receive the visa, or 3 months short of two years before your second marriage anniversary?

(I'm asking because I've heard in order to join the Coast Guard/Air Force you need to be in the process of Naturalization, and if I have to wait two years by after I receive the visa, I will be too old to apply for the CG.)

Thanks for any replies!

Bah, sorry, posted in the wrong forum, but didn't realize til just now. Hopefully someone can still answer this though.

90 days short of 2 years... not 3 months, but 90 days.

Also, I am almost 100% sure that in order to join our military you need to be either a resident or a citizen, I have NEVER heard htat you have to be in the process... Conditional Resident and Permanent Resident is basically the same thing, same rights, same responsabilities...

Wow that is reassuring  Will try calling a recruiter tomorrow and see exactly what the requirements are, but for now, I feel a little better with that being said, hehe.

Thanks for the info guys.

Misty,

Neither. 90 days before the 2nd anniversary of having been granted LPR status, which for a person with an immigrant visa would be the day that they entered the USA.

Look at your green card - it will tell you the day that you were granted status and the day - 2 years later - that your conditional status expires. Apply for removal of conditions within the 90-day period prior to the expiration date.
